Lots of these setups have been done for years - have not heard of issues for typical street cars. I have a custom setup on my off-topic 32 three-window - 9" rear, parallel leaf springs, 500+ HP SBC...

The other thing to think about is to ponder what rear-end ratios would be the best - given your final over-drive ratio of the T5. Then things like rebuilding the brake systems, etc..
