Re: Oil Pressure

Thanks AnthonyG for the idea of mounting the mech in the engine bay. My car is all original and I would like to keep that look inside and out, not to mention the chance of a leak into the interior.

Re: Oil Pressure

Well, I no longer have any faith in electrical oil pressure sending units. I had ordered another on the chance that the one I had was faulty. The new one gave a completely different reading which was...

Re: Oil Pressure

Hi JSeery,

I don't know. The manual seems to list it both ways, so I don't know if there is a difference or if it is using the terms interchangeably for the same type of oil. I will type the...

Re: Oil Pressure

Yes Rotorwrench, I saw the 10W for below freezing temps. My manual also said that for temps that persists below -10 degrees to add 1 pint of kerosene to 4 1/2 quarts of 10W. Interesting.
Thank...

Re: Oil Pressure

I was just looking through the original owner's manual for the 1950 Merc.
It recommends using SAE 20 for warm weather. I am not going to do that, of course; I just found it curious.

Re: Oil Pressure

Okay.

I have had this car less than a year. The engine seems strong with good power and acceleration. Throws no smoke at all.
Thanks for the input on oil weight. With that, I will stay with...

Re: Oil Pressure

Just an update.
I hooked up a mechanical gauge. Upon reaching operating temp and under acceleration the pressure read between 40 and 45 psi. At idle, it rested between 20-23; never went below 20....

Re: Oil Pressure

I thank everyone for the input.
I am going to hook up a mechanical gauge and see what the readings are, and go from there. Seems like a good starting point.

Oil Pressure

Looking for some input on a possible oil pressure issue.
I have a 1950 Mercury with the 255 flathead engine. I took it out for a drive yesterday, and while sitting at idle in traffic at a red...

Re: 1950 Mercury Hood Hinges

Thank you 19FORDY

I could not reply to your PM because I am new to the Ford Barn and did not have enough posts to do so. Do you have contact info for this person? If so, could you send me another...

Re: 1950 Mercury Hood Hinges

Thank you 51 MERC-CT

Maybe it is just the way that it broke off that made it appear that way to me. That would certainly make things better. I am taking it to my welding buddy on Monday. I have...

Re: 1950 Mercury Hood Hinges

I did think about restoring it, but it appears to be pot metal. Some say you can TIG weld pot metal, and I have seen others say it is very difficult because of the low melting temp. I am going to...

1950 Mercury Hood Hinges

Hello Everyone,

The upper hood hinge on my 50 Merc broke and I am trying to find a replacement. It is the left side hinge, but I would be willing to buy a pair. I would appreciate if anyone could...
