Re: Tom Endy: Transmission Bearings (Hyatt style)

Check that the endplates are hardened, a quick swipe with a file will make it obvious. Compare to an old one if necessary. If the endplates aren't hardened the bearings can come apart very quickly.

Looking at some 17" KH wire wheels and noticed 3 threaded studs and 2 "nubs" on the back side of the rim. Anybody know what these are for? I have not measured so I am not 100% sure they are even...

Check end plates to see if they're hardened on the failed bearing. Compare to original. Big problem with caged roller bearings.

Looks like you've got something else going on there, you are correct that someone was brazed/soldered/welded ? the ends of the shift forks. Shouldn't be too hard to scare up another cover that...
