Re: Awwe Crap!
That exact thing happened to me on my forty as I started a left turn from a light. It turned out to be a broken axle on the drivers side right next to the spline on the wheel side. After inspecting...

Re: 1939 85 HP Help Please
I think you did good modernizing your flathead. In 2004, 21,000 + miles ago I put a Mallory electronic Distributor. Since then I installed a high pressure oil pump and a remote oil filter. I also...

Re: tri-carb power valve
I'm no expert but I think I would use a 97 in the middle instead of a 94 and stay with the stock power valve. With three carbs your vacuum is going to die quick and the 94 has a vacuum activated...

Re: "40 tudor sedan footrest dimensions?
My footrests are about 21"wide at the top, 19.5" at the bottom and about 8" tall. They are folded down a couple of inches on the door side. I think you would have to physically see them to make a...

Re: On the road again with mitchell overdrive!
Looks like a great job. If you can see these pictures they are a GearVendors unit installed in '04 now has 20k trouble free miles. I did have to widen the tunnel about an inch to accommodate the...

Re: 39 deluxe - 40 deluxe
My vote is for the '40 deluxe. Like a lot of car guys I was building model cars way before I was even close to driving. I built every kind that AMT had on the shelves but my favorite has always been...

Re: 40 Transmission Problems:
I had similar problems with my '40 after a rebuild. I had trouble shifting for 19,000 miles thinking these old trannys were just 'hard to shift'. It finally started making big noise and I removed it...

Re: Why the flathead?
I really like all these youth knuckle-bustin' Flathead stories. I'm from the same era, 1949, so I also teethed on these engines. Usually laying under them in the rain and snow and cold doing whatever...

On my '40 V8 the exact same thing you describe was happening. It turned out to be the rod bearings and has been fine ever since they were replaced. The reason the noise stops after a wire is pulled...

Re: Transmission Rebuilder Any Info
I'm on the other side of the country but I had to get my '40 tranny rebuilt in jan/13. AA Quality Transmissions in Stuart Florida did a great job. I had it re-built in 2004 but it was never 'right'....
