Re: 32 spring bushings
If you want original type, use what you have.
If you want the best, get or make some from moly filled Delrin and fit them to a slight hand push fit in BOTH the spring and the hanger. Use shackle...

Re: ultimate flathead
Or with a cable drive tach, use a 1 to 2 drive unit.
Here is a pic of that setup with the tattletale at 9300. Really gets the fans talking after the race. This was a fairly stock 4 banger.

Re: 32 spindle bolts
Dual manifolds, headers, strokers, big valves, dropped axles etc, ad nauseam, are not stock restoration items.

Re: 32 spindle bolts
Yes, aware of all that. I assumed since this is NOT a stock restoration forum, he was using hydraulics.
By the way, Torrington bearings do not work too well in oscillating motion applications.

Re: 32 spindle bolts
The weight then rests on the washer on the end of the kingpin. I know they did it that way but I will do it my way, even on street machines.

Re: 32 spindle bolts
Yea, I knew I would get some flak on that. Put the felt on the bottom and it won't last very long with the weight of the car on it.

Re: 32 spindle bolts
The bearing goes on the bottom of the axle so the weight of the car rests on it. The felt goes on top of the axle to keep dirt out.
If the parts don't fit, get the right ones or fix them till they...

Re: A bad day!!
Until you determine why it would not go together, the problem is still there and will show it's ugly head down the road.

Re: Need Picture of Cutaway Water Jacket
Here is a water distribution system that works very good on race cars. No reason it will not work on a street machine. The coolant flows reverse from normal.
This car was driven in Los Angeles...

Re: Prony Brake Ideas
In the late 50's our company got involved in building quarter midget engines and needed a dyno to develop them. There was nothing commercially available so we built one using a V12 Allison coolant...

Re: Is it normal to build an engine test stand?
It is not normal to build an engine test stand if you do not need one. It would be a waste of time, material and space to store. Also, you could be called weird by your wife for doing so.
However,...

Re: Red dirt rising
Believe it or not, those guys (not the vintage film) can go for 3 or 4 race programs without a dent. A whole different mindset when you are racing for fun.

Re: Red dirt rising
The thing I liked about it was, that stuff was based on what actually happened.
In that one scene where they only showed one punch, that guy was made to REALLY hurt in real life.

I am not sure the new schedules are out yet.
Look up "West Coast Vintage Racers", website.
Also, "Golden Wheels".
A couple years ago, the Golden Wheels were running every Friday night at Monroe.

Re: Power Nation Flathead
Here is a video of a car with a typical noisy quick change. All the cars in this video are powered by flathead Ford engines of 286 ci or less. The car with the camera is probably the fastest vintage...
