Counterbalanced Crank
I have that scope, I can try it out tonight. I know you can use it to inspect the crankcase with the timing cover off, but I haven't checked the filler tube.

Re: New mini-video: JB Weld ExtremeHeat
I think the ExtremeHeat is a good match for this use case – it doesn't have to have any strength of its own, hold anything together, etc. It's pure filler. It's Bondo for engine blocks.

Re: F.a.s.t.
I got a reply back, they said it's going to be a physical newsletter at this stage. I agree, I would be in it exclusively for the tech and classifieds – and they may not get many classifieds with a...

Re: Battery warmer
I have one, it works as described. I don't use it for the battery. I keep it for other random cases where I need to keep something warm overnight, like I could drape it around the block as a...

New mini-video: JB Weld ExtremeHeat
I've put up a new video showing my experience using JB Weld ExtremeHeat paste to fill in pitting and low spots, both around the exhaust ports and on the block surface. This was something Brent Terry...

Re: Model A Trader Magazine
My interest is in the unfinished cars, so I have alerts set up on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. Plus regional estate sales – I have yet to get a hit there, but hope springs eternal.

Re: looking for a ride
Yeah, no way Greyhound will take a 240 lb box. They don't have forklifts, it's just porters lifting things by hand.

Re: valve tool needed
I used that tool recently to convert from the factory valves to modern straight valves with keepers. It works well enough for the clips, but if anyone is reading this and planning to use it to...

Re: An interesting idea regarding cylinder heads.
It might be possible to create a market for speed parts by doing normal sales/marketing things, like having a nice website, partnering with dealers, putting out promotional videos, reducing prices,...

Re: Headlight bulbs
Isn't the solution... to point the headlights down? I think a lot of them get off-axis, but it doesn't matter because the stock lights aren't that bright. And then folks swap over to LEDs but forget...

Re: Headlight bulbs
You still need to position the bulb within the reflector, and point it so that it doesn't blind oncoming traffic, but you have to do that with any light.

Re: An interesting idea regarding cylinder heads.
Bob, your club is among the largest in the country. If the quantity were, say, 10 heads, and let's say the discount were 10%, do you think it would be easy to put together an order? Alternatively,...

Re: Hole in Block???
I just did a complete valve replacement and I never noticed it either. I think unless you also have the timing cover off, it's just lost visually in the dark recesses of the valve chamber.

Re: Water pump "studs"
I feel like we're basically in agreement that:
The replacement bolts for the water pump do little if any harm
They confer some degree of convenience
The actual value, in terms of time/effort...

This is interesting, here's a Russian classic-car restorer that restored a GAZ-A engine that apparently they found at a WWII battlefield:

Re: Special inscription on cylinder block
I'm interested in what look like two core plugs at the top of the block in photo #1 of post 14. Doesn't match any photo of a GAZ-A engine I've ever seen. Also the shape of the reinforcement around...

Re: Water pump "studs"
I think I would be more pro-stud in this application if this were an area where torque was critical, like the head gasket or manifold gasket. But you really don't need a high clamp load to seal this...
