Does anyone out there know if the chassis parts were painted before assembly individually or, for example, was the rear axle assembly painted after assemble?

According to Les Andrews, page 1-81, if the pistons protrude above the block surface a .100 thick head gasket should be used. Where can I find one, and is this really necessary?

My Zenith II has gas that wicks up the wall of the inside of the carb. and runs over at the gasket surface. No opne has been able to solve that problem for me yet.

I have the bowl separate from the top and held in a vise.
The gas wicks up the inside and overflows to the outside. I have this experience with two separate bowls.
