Re: Shifting into second gear tough.

Not sure if the cause is the same or similar, but I had trouble shifting into second. My solution, that I stumbled on by accident, is to shift in a deliberate H pattern rather than a sort of...

Oil weight

I thought there was a thread on this but did not show up on a search. What Oil weight do you use? Also there is a debate on detergent v. non detergent. What is best for a not recently rebuilt...

The dreaded death wobble

Yet another thread on the subject. I searched for previous postings but could not find what I was looking for. I am looking for suggestions on where to start. The wobble is not consistent. ...

Re: What strange comments or questions have you heard about your Model A

Not a comment or question about my car, but another instance of how rude people can be.
Last summer while out cruising around my U-joint disintegrated leaving me stranded on a curvy back road. The...

Re: I got the LAST Goodyear Tire!

I got the other last white wall tire! Marked as you describe! And yes it's mounted and not for sale:D. but here's the interesting part. Originally I ordered only 4 tires, but realized later I...

Re: Gas tank seeping.

I too was a victim of this tank damage due to the steering wheel mount. I did not want to remove the tank either. But in response to some advice (even some scoldings to "do it right" from this...

Re: Re-installing U-Joint

Similar situation. I bought a repro and could not even get it to fit in its enclosure, let alone slip it into place. I promptly returned it and bought a used original from the dreaded ebay. It was...

Re: Occasional Hard Starting

13 years? Wow! The batteries I bought from Advance only warranted for 1 (One!) year. Never heard of Fleet Farm (I'm on the east coast) But I checked their web site and found a 24 Month 6V for $49.

Re: Occasional Hard Starting

Bump. . .

Well sometimes you hear the old adage ". . .things are often not like they seem. . . " Not so here! Turns out the trouble was the battery! I did not suspect that since the battery...

I have been unable to find any vendor (Model A or modern) with 00 gauge. Bratton's offers a 1 gauge calling it "original". But I've mounted a kill switch under the driver's seat and can't use the...

Re: Occasional Hard Starting

If that is the problem, why is hard cranking so sporadic/intermittent? Nevertheless, what is the correct gauge? (number)

Re: Occasional Hard Starting

I haven't removed the starter yet. When I do, what would I be looking for to determine if the bendix is the cause?

Re: Occasional Hard Starting

Battery connections are good. I recently redid all to add a kill switch. That was done quite a while before these symptoms appeared.

Occasional Hard Starting

Hopefully someone will have hint on how to troubleshoot this. Sometimes the engine will turn over hard pretty much the way it would with a weak battery. But if that were the problem, it would be...

Re: Not Model A but interesting

That's it! But the history channel said 1912. Here's how it worked:

It was a small device that attached to the odometer. A motorist would purchase a cardboard disk with directions on it. The...

Re: Not Model A but interesting

Nope. But here's a hint: GPS, the acronym for Global Positioning System, is rather a misnomer since they require satellites which did not exist at the time.

Re: Would leaving the ignition on cause damage to the coil?

Agreed! Found this out the hard way. My starter failed when attempting a start and with the key off kept cranking until I grabbed a wrench and disconnected it! Needless to say I installed a kill...
