Re: New Airplane Engine

Wow! Looks beautiful. Some Day.... Nothing like an A powered Air Camper or Scout...The only looks change that I'd want is the spoked wheels although the balloon tires are very practical.

Re: Tillotson carb question

The saying is: zenith for the show car, tilly for the go car. However, I have a zenith on mine and it runs perfectly. Absolutely no issues so no reason to change. I do have a reconditioned tillotson...

Re: USPS problems?

The USPS is a quasi govt organization. It is funded to a large degree by taxpayer subsidies, so the shipping fees paid over the counter are only part of the bill. Basically, its a mess.

Re: New Airplane Engine

I've ridden in one at the Pietenpol fly in in Broadhead WI. Can't remember which year, I think mid to late 90's. It's an amazing aircraft, "low and slow".

Re: ideas on a cheap wash tub?

Most true farm stores will have large quantities of molasses. It is used as cattle feed. Brent's idea of wooden frame covered with plastic is the best one. I use that idea in my greenhouse to create...

Re: Bad Tube

There were some bad tubes sold a few years ago that weren't much good even when they were new. A good quality tube kept out of the light, especially in a tire can easily last 40+ years.

Re: At What Age Do You Give It Up?

I'd say it's time, no matter the age, when you lose interest. If the A sits and deteriorates and it makes you feel bad to look at it, its time to sell. If you are still getting someone to wheel you...

Re: Air Filter

I also use an original aftermarket AirMaze. It collects a lot of dirt so must be doing something. Does not affect the fuel mixture at all that I can notice.

Re: rubber boots

I put them on my car probably 10 years ago and they haven't cracked or deteriorated at all that I can tell. I got mine from Mac's. The ones I got are pretty thick rubber, thinner would be better as...

Re: newly rebuilt and a knock

If it was me... 1. call the rebuilder and talk it through, have him tell you what to do to troubleshoot etc. 2. People are busy, it may take some time for him to reconcentrate his efforts to helping...

Re: Generator cutout

A couple things... You replaced the ammeter as stated in previous post. If you put in a reproduction ammeter I would definitely test the old one and if its good, which is highly likely, put it back...

Re: My 1st Model A (non Hotrod) - Starting....

If you want a real mess start throwing parts at the car. For no or weak spark condition: 1. lift spark plug straps a quarter inch, turn on ignition then run the starter by activating the starter...

Re: 1929/1930 RPU truck

Others more knowledgeable than me will hopefully chime in, but I think there was some crossover with the pickups into 1930? Or maybe it was the AA?

Re: Jump Starting flat 6V battery

Especially if the battery is completely dead, you should trickle charge for 24 hours. Killing a battery down to nothing is VERY hard on it and just a quick jump and driving around a bit may bring it...

Re: Jump Starting flat 6V battery

It would be better to just jump the battery without starting the car. Maybe 10 seconds or less. Then put the charger on it and give it a good deep charge. Pay attention to polarity!

Re: water in the oil

Is it water or coolant? Short run times will cause condensation in the oil pan. Over time it can amount to quite a bit.

Re: Preparing for the end.

One thing I think about, I love my "stuff" but its almost always for a sentimental reason. There are a lot of farm retirement auctions here, usually because of a retirement to the cemetery. Its sad...

Re: Pricing for a rebuilt engine - been sitting for a time

$1500 seems like a good deal to me too, knowing what you do about the builder. I bought a brand new engine, NOT model A, that had been sitting for 40 years in a crate. I just overfilled the crankcase...

Re: 6 cylinders

The model K engine was flexible. It was mounted solid to the frame, so if one wheel was on a little hump the twist of the frame would lock up the engine. Always have to find a flat spot to park on or...

Re: Combination crows foot/combination wrench

If you are using this with a torque wrench you'll have to run it at a 90 degree angle to the bolt or the torque will not be accurate.
