Silicone needed when installing new intake/manifold gaskets?

Picked up a new gasket kit from snyders (http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/gasket-set-2006).

Wondering whether the exhaust/intake manifold gasket needs silicone or is it ready to go just the way...

Re: Brake lining replacement

Currently in the process. This is what spurred my other post about degreasing - it's a filthy mess down there.

Looking for my car's previous owner

This is a complete shot in the dark, but I don't know of a better place to start looking.

The car was purchased from a gentleman in Florida who had some connection with Callaway Gardens, I...

Re: Brake lining replacement

Does this mean marry the pads to the shoes and then sand the pad to where it fits the drum perfectly? Does any kind of sand paper work for this, or am I looking for something more specialized? I'm...

Brake lining replacement

This is a task I've never tackled before, but since the shoes are in good condition, I don't see any reason to completely replace them.

What are some MUSTS when replacing woven brake linings?

General degreasing - any recommendations?

While I've got the head off and the car in the middle of some repairs, I want to also give a really good degreasing to clean it up and also help to identify if/where there are any oil leaks.

Re: Use WD40 to suspend crud in cylinders for removal

Ha, sorry for the confusion. "Clean out heads without removal" - No no no no no. Definitely not trying to take a short cut like that. No.

Someone did work on the heads and the cylinders, and I...

Use WD40 to suspend crud in cylinders for removal

The title may sound a bit weird - basically what I'm trying to learn is whether it's safe to use WD-40 in the heads/cylinders as a medium for breaking off and suspending stuck on funk in the cylinder...

Wanted: 29-31 Engine - non-running for restoration

I currently have a '31 Cabriolet with an original motor in excellent condition. It has been that way since I got it over a decade ago, and as such I have had very little experience with an engine...

Re: Starter motor fuse?

That was actually one of the diagrams I found. The one I've used primarily is this one:http://www.webjunk.com/modela/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/wiring-diagramcolor2sm.jpg

Re: Wiring harness - LENGHTS

Do they just need Make Model Year? If so then this is DEFINITELY what I will do. I was going to get the wire from either them or Brattons.

Re: Starter motor fuse?

Ahh, okay. I am definitely going to fuse basically everything this time around. I really like the idea of a basic manual battery disconnect.

I think that one issue has just made me a tad anxious...

Wiring harness - LENGHTS

So I am on the verge of completely replacing the wiring in our '31 Cabriolet (with cowls).

I found a diagram with all of the wiring information (colors, etc) BUT no information on lengths.

The link is to an image of a '30 with some sort of fuse on the starter motor. http://www.wallpaperup.com/141958/1930_Ford_Model-A_5-window_Coupe_45B_retro_engine_r.html

My question is what does...

Re: "Sticky" ignition

Thanks for the great suggestions. I can confirm that I have been advancing the spark all the way before starting. Also, I can say that I am not entirely sure why I was doing this or how the habit...

Re: "Sticky" ignition

Definitely "up" for timing. I am now trying to remember if that's right about how I start it. It's one of those things that I've done so many times, it's second nature. But I think we keep it...

"Sticky" ignition

I'll see if I can describe "sticky ignition" the best I can. First off, car is a '31 Cabriolet all original engine, etc., etc., etc. Just so we're clear on what hardware we're working with here.
