Re: Early '51 Merc. overdrive Transmission

Prefill the OD section with about a pint. Fill the rest through the filler plug on the passenger side of the main gearbox. Then let it sit overnight in a warm room. Recheck the level at the main...

Re: NEW products available thread

We just introduced a new item.....the special hardware kit for the Borg Warner overdrive lockout levers. The kit fits all versions of the BW lockout levers. These are the pieces needed to properly...

Re: New misfire - sticky valves?

It appears that the spring retainer has also come loose. Under the circumstances, the entire valve assembly is suspect. You could try to reassemble the this particular valve assembly, checking each...

Re: Transmission 2nd Gear Condition Question

The answers you’ve been given above are correct. Mart’s observation about the wear on the synchro teeth is correct. You can see that almost half of the width of the synchro teeth is worn away. This...

Re: Need help ID'ing this synchronizer

1932-38 used the same hub, but the outer sleeve came in two flavors. There was the first version that measures 1.406” width (front to rear). Then in 1935 Ford changed the outer sleeve to a slightly...

Re: Universal Joint Rubbing Wear Problem

The U-Joint is supposed to bottom out against the rear bearing inner race. This is what pulls the mainshaft back against the front face of the ball bearing, thus locating the shaft correctly in the...

Re: Later f1 trans to closed drive conversion.

Mart, you’re embarking on mission impossible with your proposal. Ford never offered a closed drive mainshaft that would accept the 1951-52 gears that you have in this transmission.

Some mfr...

Re: 3 spd OD 12v solenoid

We don’t sell the solenoids. I’ve been referring people to Fifth Avenue. However, I’m trying to get hold of Randy at Fifth Avenue and having trouble reaching him. Anyone know him locally and able to...

Re: 33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question

Ahhh....I know better than to trust the later versions for 100% accuracy. They do occasionally add to the application list. I already knew about the two versions for 1933-34 but the photo image we...

Re: 33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question

According to the 1949 printed version of the 28-48 Green Bible, the 40-7511-A arm was listed as the part used for the 1933-34 passenger car with the V-8 engine. The 40-7511-B arm was listed for the...

Re: 54 ford rear yoke

I missed the “rear end” part of his request, so I was mistaken in suggesting we could have the part. We don’t have the rear driveshaft yoke in any case.

Re: 54 ford rear yoke

Assuming it’s for a standard shift car, we have some of them in our NOS parts. They don’t include the universal joint of course, but we also stock those. Part number is B5A-4841 for the slip yoke.

Re: BorgWarner Overdrive Questions

The GL-4 gear oil (non-synthetic) in a 90 wt is what we’ve always recommended for the Borg Warner overdrives. If you are filling up the transmission with it in the car, you’ll have to use the filler...

Re: 91A-8600 Radiator fan

That’s how I measure them......in effect, the full length of the actual hub itself.

Please post the hub lengths of the two fans so that we can note the difference for future reference. Thanks

Re: Media Blasting 40 Body

Re: Early Ford Transmission in Chrome

I was concerned about the bearing bores and the bolt hole threads, but all was good. It didn’t appear that the plating was in the bearing bores, and, in fact, the bearing fit was good. So, we had no...

Early Ford Transmission in Chrome

A customer in Texas sent us these transmission gearbox castings from a 1951 pickup truck, and asked us to build the rest of the unit. Since he's planning on putting the unit into a hot rod, he wanted...

Re: Info on this truck transmission

If the cluster gear and the sliding gears are good (little to no wear on the teeth and no rust pitting) I’d be interested in them. You’d have to take it apart to verify this so that would be up to...

Re: Cam Gear Noise

Also you may have to check the length of the four bolts that secure the gear to the camshaft, making sure one or all four don’t stick out the back side too much. The front block plug is also in this...
