Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

In the Monarch Meteor book by Zavitz. He mentions the Super Deluxe model Mercury was labelled 114X.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

Thats true. In the fifties you would not find both Lincoln Mercury dealerships and Ford Monarch dealerships in the same small town in Sask. GM and Chrysler dealerships , yes. Really amazing to...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

Mercury from a car show in B.C. Canada in the early 2000s. Is it one of the 114 models?

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

The Monarch convertible or "woody" wagon have got to be really rare if any survive today.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

You are right Bill. And the person who did the caption on that photo was wrong. Like so many others who seem to think Meteor and Mercury go together. True enough a couple of years later the...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

Just spotted what appears to be a 46 Monarch in this video shot in Alberta recently. At the 10:43 mark. https://youtu.be/7YEEjEaWmSE

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

Those numbers are listed in the R.Perry Zavitz book.
You never know when a new photo will turn up. I just found this one of a Lincoln Mercury dealership in Holdfast, Sask. Looks like the second...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

Ford and Monarch were quite similar in those years but by 1949 there was no mistaking a Monarch for a Ford.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

Thats a nice ad I've never seen before. Checked my fast moving parts catalogue and they don't have much to say about Mercury bumpers. This page pretty well sums it up.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

According to the Zavitz book some Monarchs did come with the extra lower grille bar so this one could be original.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

I think you are right. That bumper with the turned up "ears" at each end only shows up on the full size 47-48 Mercury in my books.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

The front views show the difference in the 114 and 118. The 114 looks like a Ford with a Mercury grille. Which is pretty much what the 49 Meteor was. `

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

Checked my fast moving parts catalogue and it looks like long wheelbase cars got the 15 inch wheels while short wheelbase (114-116 inch) got the 16 inch wheels. Here is the page

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

I'll have to check my 1929-1949 Ford Fast moving parts catalogue as i think it might have the answer to wheel size.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

We had a Ford Monarch dealership in town. Lincoln-Mercury and Meteor were a separate dealer from Ford- Monarch. i imagine its pretty confusing for those outside of Canada. I have enough trouble...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

I think they had to make the Mercury trim fit the Ford fenders and hood because these 114s were Ford bodies.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

Co-incidentally this photo showed up on FB tonight showing what I believe to be a model 114 47 Mercury. From right here in Sask.
