Re: Hydrolic clutch

Hey B&S,

I didn’t get any work done on the car yesterday but I plan to work on the Columbia today. I’ll check first thing that the vacuum valve is not bottoming out.

Re: Hydrolic clutch

40 cape, I see what you are saying. I should have left the original rod in place!
Now that I think about it, that rod was screwed into the Columbia Hydrolic until the hole lined up with the...

Re: Hydrolic clutch

Success!

I was really intimidated by the spring attached to the pin at the clevis rod eye. Even if I got it off, how would I possibly get it back on especially given the position I had to work...

Re: Hydrolic clutch

Hey Coop,
Third gen are the best. Even with the Nationals going on they got me a measly bolt in record time!

I got the spring off, removed the cotter pin and removed both the rod for the clutch...

Re: Hydrolic clutch

Hey Guys,

Got my 5” Cleve rod end yesterday. I have the transmission cover off.

It looks like the first thing to do is remove the rod end so that I can rotate it out and then reinstall the...

Re: Hydrolic clutch

Thanks Coop, My current rod is only 4”. I’ve been searching everywhere for a 5” clevis rod bolt but couldn’t find anything longer than 3.5 “ This rod from third gen is exactly what I need. Ordered...

Re: Hydrolic clutch

Tubman, my bad, my iPad apparently doesn’t recognize some words. It changes “clevis” to “clovis” automatically while I’m diligently typing out the clevis.

Re: Hydrolic clutch

Hey Guys,

Ran into a problem. I don’t have enough threads left on the clevis rod. It looks like it’s adjusted all the way out. I need to replace this rod with one about one inch longer.
Can...

Re: Hydrolic clutch

Hope to get help tomorrow with clutch adjustment. Thanks for the instructions Coop. I’ll let you know how things turn out.
Thanks for the tip Mart. I guess I should lengthen the ss shaft at the...

Re: Hydrolic clutch

Coop, yes the pedal returns to the original position without a problem. When first pressing the clutch pedal, I feel little resistance for the first several inches before engaging the pressure plate...

Re: Hydrolic clutch

Here is the best pic I have of the Clovis attached to the clutch release rod. I think 40cpe may have it. If I lengthen the Clovis rod it will raise the clutch engagement point, Hydrolic or not. ...

Re: Hydrolic clutch

OK here are some more pics. It’s hard to get in the right position to get the perfect shot but these will hopefully shed some light on the situation.
When I depress the clutch, both rods move. The...

Re: Hydrolic clutch

Sorry about the photos. I’ll get some more after lunch. Btw both the black rod and the ss rod move simultaneously in the same direction when the clutch is depressed.

Hydrolic clutch

Well this is completely new to me. A Hydrolic clutch. I didn’t know there was such a thing on early V8s. My car is 1933 and for sure came with the basic “manual” clutch release but it looks like...
