Whichever way you decide to go, Les Pearson's book The Complete Model A Ford Restoration Manual has an excellent description of how to disassemble the steering column.

A while back I started a thread called "The time between stripping and painting"
Talked about our use of molasses to remove rust. 9 parts water to 1 part molasses is what we used and it worked...

The molasses only attacks the rust not the metal. Those pits were caused by rust and the molasses cleans right down to the bottom of the pits.

I agree with ford3. Molasses works great and removes ONLY the rust. You already have the tank and the water all you need is the molasses. Easy to get from a restaurant supply company. I never would...

We can't bring the car this year as it is disassembled for restoration, but we will bring our enthusiasm for the As and Ts. Always a good show.

We bought our 29 sedan in March and its still coming apart. I wish it were closer to drive-able.
