Re: help with Model A market values

In my opinion, a fair value for either of these two cars would depend entirely upon your anticipated action once purchased. If for instance, the purpose in acquiring either of these would be to...

Re: Are brake floaters worth it?

I put them along with steel drums on my last restoration, but have no intentions to put them on my current restoration. I haven't been able to deduce any real difference with floaters than with the...

Re: Model A Town Car?

Hi Ronn - With reference to the 1930 Town Car being discussed, I believe that there is a third one out there somewhere. Back in the 1960's and early 1970's Wendell Townsend of Atlanta restored a...

Re: Specific wood question

A couple of initial thoughts: I gather from your mention of replacing the wooden frame rails that there is a good chance that the body may be off of the car and the frame rails exposed. If so, it...

Re: Exhaust whistle: where to install?

My recollection of some of the original exhaust whistles is that they would mount just before or in front of the muffler, under the car. Of course these were hard to find, so when the reproduction...

Re: Sound deadening Q ?

You asked about sound deadening for roadster/touring car doors. When we first did our phaeton back in the 1960's, we stuffed the doors with fiberglass separated from the traditional house insulation...

Re: 1929 Murray Rear Dome Light

Unfortunately no. It is my understanding that the (rear) dome light that came on the Town Sedan was essentially a rounded oval with four rounded "corners" within that oval. One other unique feature...

Re: Are aftermarket hoods any good?

I replaced the hood on our 1929 Town Sedan when I re-did it several years back - the hood fits fine. Also, when we built my nephew's '28 roadster pickup, we put a new hood on it with similar...

Re: Difference between the two hand brakes 1928/1929

Our January '29 touring car has a firewall date stamping of 1-31-29, and it has the center brake lever, outside door handles, but '28 drum tail light. Hope this helps.

Re: Signs, back in the day

I recall that one of the teachers in the high school that I attended had this posted on his chalk board the first day of school one year:

"He who knows not, and knows not that he knows not,...

Re: What is this Accessory called?

As a short "P.S.", the crank will work with the center strip installed, just not with the tool box between the frame horns.

Re: What is this Accessory called?

There was on the 68-C I purchased a few years back. It slips in behind the upper and lower portions of the shell (mine was attached by the previous owner with several layers of electrical tape). ...

Re: 1928 Phaeton Tail light

If original, it should have what was termed a "drum" tail light - round and having a depth from the backing plate of something between one to 1 1/2 inches (probably closer to one inch). It would...

Re: Heated Seats In The Model "A"

Thanks for your thoughts and recommendations guys. I am hoping to start with the interior after the first of the year. As a lot of folks have joked in the past, at my age, I don't even buy green...

Re: Heated Seats In The Model "A"

We are about ready to begin the upholstery process on our '31 Cabriolet, and have been thinking about putting heated seat pads under the seat fabric rather than on top of the seat. Has anyone tried...

Re: 16" Wheels

I personally prefer the look of the original 19" or 21" wheels on a Model A. For those who may be considering changing from the original size to one of the later V8 wheels for performance reasons, I...

Re: Waxing or Polishing 1929 Ford Model A

No one has mentioned it, but I will sometimes use a 3-M hand glaze to address fine scratches. The fellow who buffed our Cabriolet after painting also recommended using Mcquire's wax products as a...

Re: How to Restore Ď29 Phaeton Top Irons?

Its been a number of years since we re-did the top on our '29 touring car, but a couple of quick observations. Moving from left to right and then down on your attached photos, I noticed in photos...

Re: Can I use new cast brake drums with old shoes?

I'm not sure if you are planning to use woven linings with cast iron drums, or bonded linings. In my opinion, woven linings should only be used with steel drums, and bonded linings with cast iron...

Re: Save it or drive it

I have a few what I would call "nice Model A's" - they are not high points cars with all of the fine detailing and parts accuracy that go into making one of those fine examples, but they are...

Re: Solution for audio system in model A?

I placed front speakers in the front cowl panels of our '29 Town Sedan and then placed a "pocket cover/flap" over them so that when I was not using the bluetooth, I could close the flaps and at least...

Re: Factory VIN - ID Numbers

I have restored a few Model A's over the years, mostly '28-'29 models, and each of these had serial numbers stamped on the left frame rail; however, my current project is a '31 Cabriolet and it did...
