Re: Car wash bucket....

I'd be cautious using that, delinquents around here went thru town squirting shampoo on parked cars. It did lots of damage, many re-paints required.

Re: Car wash bucket....

Can't go wrong with any Meguiar's products. I use their Gold Class carnauba wax, it seems to hold up in the sun better than others. If your paint is oxidized, best to hit it with one of their...

Re: The Good, the bad, but no ugly

Check all the hoses leading from the tank to the pump. Gas fumes seem to eat up rubber more than actual gas. FP diaphragms too.

Re: Front brake wheel stud/brake drum question

The studs are actually a loose fit in the conical holes, but that may be from the studs moving in the holes? (wallowed out?)

I assembled it using the flat holes, and it seems to fit better,...

Front brake wheel stud/brake drum question

On my 52 F-1, I pulled the front drum off for a check-up. Putting it back on, I realized there were two sets of holes in the drum, both of which work. This is an original Ford-script drum, and AFAIK...

Re: 1cm

That's a '52 hood on the truck, the hood trim also appears to be '52. Can you post the serial number?

Re: Transmission and rear end oil

You should have the T98 4-sp, synchro'd on 2-3-4? That was also used in some trucks in 51-52, see lube chart below. (Remote shift = column shifter 3-sp)

Re: 52 Ford F1 spare tire carrier.

A lot of guys run the 195/75's all around on the stock 4.5" rims. I don't think it would be a problem on 5.5", but the tire shop could tell you for sure.

Re: Transmission Oil

Here is a piece I copied off a different forum, explains things pretty clearly. Note that it applies only to Valvoline's High Performance lubes, they have others that may not qualify.

In that same...

Re: 1cm

For US production, it was '52 when trucks got the 279 and 317 OHV engines. I would think it odd that Canadian production would have them earlier, but some states/provinces titled vehicles by year of...

Re: 1cm

There were Merc trucks in Canada that came with the 255. I had understood it was only '52's, but possible that also in '51. Only in M5 and M6 "big" trucks.

Re: Fan Belt Tension Adjuster....

This is the most elegant tool I've seen, I have it saved as being "1950FordF1"s. (from FTE I suspect) I tried to make one like it but was not successful.

Vergil on here posted the "fulcrum" that...

Re: Seat belts, 1950 F3

I went with lap belts, 2 sets. I bought brand new ones, and bought 94" long ones. I am using the stock seat. 72" sets are widely available but only work for VERY skinny folks.

I mounted them into...

Re: Recommendations for new 50 8ba upgrade carb to replace the original Holly

That carb is for a Car, has the wrong air horn for a truck's air cleaner.

I went the Rochester 2G route, with a Merc manifold, and use a GM-style MSD distributor. The 2G's are a huge improvement...

Re: Adding a Coolant Overflow Tank

It keeps air out of the system, reduces corrosion.

On my truck, there is a horizontal "tab" under the cap. That is the cold fill level, about an inch below the filler neck. Anything more than that...

Re: 50-52 Truck Bed

I've never seen factory blueprints for the beds or the boards. There is a lot of slop as far as board spacing goes.

BTW, 51-52 are slightly different from the flat-sided late-'50's, they have a...

Re: Clutch chatter eliminated finally

Mine was about the same, so I replaced it. I was also having clutch chatter but it didn't really help. Just having a fresh piece in there, with grease on it, did make the clutch action much smoother.

Re: Second Thoughts on Valve Lash?

I've always assumed the rotators determine the clearance. The specs changed when they went to rotators. The same cam was spec'd on trucks whether it had rotators or not.

Re: Fuele Mileage question....

I have my truck tuned that way, but around town (35 -45 mph speed limits) and with stops/starts, averaging 13. On the highway (55-60) close to 17, but these trucks are like pushing a barn door thru...
