Re: sign of the times
Unless the guy is missing a leg, there's no excuse. Anyone can learn to drive stick in an afternoon, it's not rocket science. I would think one of the qualifications of being a professional car mover...

Re: Removing stuck distributor and lower shaft
It soaked all night before I made this post in PB blaster. I used a propane torch to heat it up and more PB blaster and ever so gently used a pry bar on either end of the distributor. I repeated that...

Re: Tight crank gear
Contact whoever you bought it from and get them to replace it for you
Alternatively, take it down to your local shop and have them bore it to the size you're looking for

Re: Snyder's New Catalog Came...and a Warning!
If I was paying someone hourly labor to do all the work I've put into mine, I couldn't justify owning it. I'd probably be $20k to $30k deep in just labor costs. My car wasn't even in bad shape. Its...

Re: Snyder's New Catalog Came...and a Warning!
Speaking of hoarding parts, not Model A but Willys Jeep story...
When I was a kid my dad was into old Willys jeeps. We used to buy parts from this old man who had several acres of shipping...

Re: Removing stuck distributor and lower shaft
As far as it being that one piece shaft, I'm not sure. This is the first time I've opened up the engine. It is possible that it is the one piece shaft.
I can't bring myself to just leave it (as...

Removing stuck distributor and lower shaft
Pulled my cylinder head to replace the gasket (what an ordeal). After battling a few rusty studs to get the head off, now I've got the distributor stuck in the head and the lower shaft rusted to the...

Re: Snyder's New Catalog Came...and a Warning!
The problem with getting into the manufacturing game is the high cost of entry (tools, materials, space, etc..)
How does an enterprising young man afford the startup costs and compete with Chinese...

Re: Jazz Age '28 Sport Coupe on Hemmings Auction
I would take $50k in a heartbeat, wouldn't have to think about it. I paid $6.5k for mine and have spent several hundred hours getting it running right. I can't imagine that I have anymore than $2k in...

Re: Jazz Age '28 Sport Coupe on Hemmings Auction
Car just sold for $47k plus 5% buyer's fee, so $49,350 total. I thought the price was high at $26k, $50k is absolutely absurd. I guess there is plenty of money to be made in restoring these cars...

Re: Motor Meter or Quail
All it takes is one time. Plus you know if it isn't getting hot enough. If it's under 65f outside mine won't get much above 120f. I have two different sized cardboard blockoff plates I painted black...

Re: Carburetor leaking
There's several different carburetors that fit on the Model A. You may have ended up with a float that was made for a different carburetor.

Re: Carburetor leaking
I just went through this with my old carburetor.
Like everyone else is saying, first off make sure the float is good. I had set the float height on mine to the correct spec was still getting...

Re: Grease fitting on exhaust pipe
That must have been an April Fool's day article. That would make a mess on the inside of your exhaust and produce an ungodly amount of smoke
