51 MERC-CT - I have a handheld unit but it's tricky to use as well. Besides that, it ties up your hands and prevents or slows down...

When I put the core plugs in place (as Mart described) I used some red Loctite as added insurance against their coming loose and leaking.

The extended diameter on the front plug (beyond the threaded portion) was to restrict the flow of oil coming through that galley and going into the timing gear area.
