IIRC at least one of the major race sanctioning bodies require that the disconnect switch be the hot side.

I'm installing a 3G alternator on the 302 I'm putting in my '54 Ranch Wagon. I wired it like the 2 attached diagrams show and it charges fine but I can't figure out the idiot light or no charge light...

I do know that back in the day some HP Ford big blocks had sodium filled valves. Don't know if the ones you're inquiring about are but worth verifying if the are or not.

Hard to tell from the photos but it doesn't look like it has wide fives. Possible that it was changed over to '40 or later brakes with 5 on 5 1/2 pattern?
