Re: 8BA Flathead Ford Crankshaft Pulley Install

BTW if using a stock radiator on a truck 48-52, they have a hump so you can get a socket and some extensions through. Not sure if your setup has that or not.

Re: 8BA Flathead Ford Crankshaft Pulley Install

If you break the head off that bolt you open yourself up to a whole really big can of worms. I am sure that is obvious. I wouldn’t try to get it off until you can get an impact back on it. If it...

Re: 8BA Flathead Ford Crankshaft Pulley Install

As long as you didn’t strip it I wouldn’t worry. That is a big bolt and should be able to hold 50 or 70 lbs fine.

Re: Adjustable Lifters

My hollow adjustables have been fine but I got them from a reputable supplier. It’s interesting that the v8 stock lifters are not adjustable, the 226 straight 6 are adjustable.

Re: Clutch Release Shaft Bushing tool

On a bushing like that where a press is near impossible, a piece of all thread, some washers and nuts make a good crude press and avoid damaging the bushing edges.

Re: Best chemicals/solutions/goops to clean off gear oil, etc. on a chassis

My go to degreaser is a commercial citrus degreaser called de-zov all. It’s expensive, but works. The others I have tried just move it around. Spray, let soak, then hit with a good low pressure power...

Re: '48 F1 4 speed trans color

Those transmissions with a coat of black bill hirsch engine enamel with the case bolts cad plated always makes me smile and looks great! How original that is, I don’t know!

Re: Heat Riser In Exhaust

Our F1 226 still has it and it still works great! The 226 heat riser parts are extremely rare.

Re: Should I convert from 6 volts to 12 volts

Our 52 is still 6 volt and very reliable. New wiring, all electrical components restored, and really good grounding. I honestly don’t think 12v would improve anything on our old truck.

Re: 2nd gear disengaging

Before I took out the transmission, I would check your linkage. On the column shift there are numerous places for slop to occur. The shifter on the bottom of the steering column has numerous wear...

Re: 2nd gear disengaging

Maybe Mac VP will weigh in here. That issue could be caused by a shifting linkage that needs adjusted, worn synchronizer rings, worn shift housing parts like the balls, other issues. The rings are...

Re: 8BA Truck Oil Pan Gasket for the cleanout

The pan flange, the stud ring, and the clean out plate are all prone to deformation due to over tightening of the plate nuts to cure leaks. Even with new gaskets, if those surfaces are deformed, you...

Re: Help !!!!! Belts

Good deal, I use a cherry picker, same concept. Most 8RT intakes I see have the generator mount rails broken off, sometimes on one side sometimes on both. With the cherry picker, I know my force is...

Re: Cheap bias ply tires ?

The tire shop I use here locally always gives me good advice, sometimes recommending a brand different (and cheaper) than I initially inquired about. I realize relationships like that are rare so you...

Re: Cheap bias ply tires ?

Brakes and tires are important safety features, I would get the opinion of a reputable tire shop on mounting trailer tires on your classic vehicle.

Re: Correct spark plugs for 1952 F-1?

I have heard from a good source that the five rib champions are correct for the f1’s. I have a set of both 2 rib and 5 rib. I never understood why that really mattered, as the spark plug wire boot...
