Re: Can't get engine started after changing timing gear

To check for consistent strong spark, lift all of the spark plug straps so there is about an eighth inch gap then in a darkened area run the starter while watching the spark on each strap. It should...

Re: I think it can be saved.

As a 12 yr old kid I bought a 1951 Chev 1/2 ton. I had as close to zero money as you could get, so the local boneyard was my parts source. One time I remember needing a "three on the tree" shifter...

Re: Blown fuse

Everything else in the car is as near perfect as can be. There will be plenty of things that come up after you buy it and in the years to come. A blowing fuse can be a bit frustrating if its...

Re: Losing Power at High Speeds

Sounds like you fixed it. As far as the oil leaks go, tighten the pan bolts and side cover etc. Run the oil level in between the add and full. I use 15-40 oil non-synthetic. I have very little oil...

Re: 3rd engine failure...getting frustrated

Sounds to me like you have had 2 old engines give out, and 1 rebuilt engine develop a problem. Things happen. Talk to the rebuilder and see what his take on it is. Most would warranty for 1000 miles...

Re: Leaky Tire

If you do a good job of patching the tube it will be just as good as new. A good "old" tube can be much better than some of the new tubes. I run my tires until the thread is gone, and yes I sometimes...

Re: Tech help with model A cabin space.

Im 6ft 4in. I got sick of cramping up in my Fordor, so one day I grabbed the shifter in both hands and bent it over a ways. Still was too tight so I took the seat out, remounted it back 3 inches,...

Re: 1928 ford C-Max For sale / Facebook

That isn't such a bad project car. Get the mechanicals going and put the body together enough to function well, install a homemade functional interior and you'll be THE car that everyone will be...

Re: Radiator hot or not

If you want to, you can push a rubber hose on the radiator overflow tube, then hang a jug of some kind in the engine compartment. Make sure the hose goes to the bottom of the jug. As the engine cools...

Re: Economical and effective hydraulic brake conversion.

I don't know about areas with more moderate temps, but up here in the north country juice brakes on the old cars are nothing but trouble. Rust and leaking seals to contend with every year when pulled...

Re: 1930 Pickup Backfiring/misfiring out carburetor

One thing to check is lift the spark plug straps about an 1/8 inch away from the dist posts and in the evening run the car. You can see if the spark gets erratic. The higher the RPM the more...

Re: Cut out problem on 30?

Number one, don't take anything apart until you find out what's wrong. Put a good quality voltmeter on the battery before starting, and then when running at a high idle. Then check the voltage on...

Re: I'm not a Model A person

Re: Is my block dead?

Let this be a lesson about using antifreeze. If engine is good runner, JB weld. If rebuilding, have it soldered or welded. It's very common up here in the north country. I rode behind a model A...

Re: Ok, i'll poke the bear..Ethanol or Straight Gasoline ?

Re: Victoria with moveable stick shift

Rotating the shifter forward doesn't hurt anything. Do it all the time, has been done for 90 years with no problem. If it doesn't re-engage properly its because something isn't right. Pulling it up...
