Re: New to me

If it is the Bendix, you will hear a definite "clunk" when you rock it back and forth in third gear.

Re: Blocking manifold heater tube

I took a 28-29 hubcap, put a bung from a 55 gallon drum inside it and put a hole in the bung. Put a screw thru the bung, extending about 2 inches. I put the hubcap on the firewall side and extend...

Re: Model AA Buses produced?? Surviving??

The Beller Museum, Romeoville, IL just completed a total restoration/rebuild of a 1932 School bus. It took several old bodies to get enough panels to rebuild to use/make the new bus. This bus has...

Re: Starter Not Working (Just Humming)

With the car in third gear, rock the car forwards and backwards as best as possible. If you get a loud clunk, the starter Bendix has loosened itself and the starter should work again as normal.

Re: Swaging brake drum studs

At the museum we have a swadging tool that was modified by grinding down slightly, two of the opposite faces on the tool, so that you press it down completely, then rotate it 90 degrees and do it...

Re: First real "adventure" in the Model A

And to top it off, a beer run is always worth the reward for the trip!

Re: Temperature Gauge Installation

I just drilled and tapped the back side (facing the rear of the car) for a 1/2 inch pipe thread. Was really easy to do. In fact I was so ecstatic that I did six of them!

Re: Generator not charging?

One of my Cut-outs is a voltage regulator. It only shows a charge for a few seconds when the car is first started after having sat for a long period of time. Otherwise no charging indicated. It...

Re: 29 Pickup for sale

I, too, would say that you should buy it. It will be a great first start at owning a model A Ford. There are always things that can be tweaked to make it improved, but if it runs and stops, it will...

Re: Rear axle nut

One leg is bent up and over the facing of the nut, the second leg is just tapped back slightly, towards the bearing.

Re: Head Removal

I prefer to use one of the head pullers that the vendors sell. They really make easy work of the removal. If you do not have one, see if you can borrow one from a local club member.

Re: Messko Radiator Cap for Model A

It should release like other caps. Try to get it off using a strap wrench. One of mine is tough to remove and comes off fairly easy using the strap wrench.

Re: Load capacity ?

I look at it this way, if I have a sedan, and have two of my pals, each weighing 250 pounds or so, and they are in the back seat, isn't that what we are discussing? Wait, I see this frequently!

Re: Zerk grease adapter fell into housing any harm?

The bolt you fished out and the tabbed washer are bendix starter bolts. Very common for them to come loose and end up as you found them.

Re: Greasing the u-joint

I have found that removing just one of the bolts holding the speedometer housing, instead of removing the entire housing works well. It allows the grease to come out of the bolt hole nicely.

Re: Frustrated

If you have a Zenith Carburetor, Clean the screen on the end of the carb. Just take the screw loose and the small screen is attached to it and it will come out.

Re: Stuck Head

I have found that when using my purchased head puller (Stipe) that after I get the initial 3/4 inch or so lift, remove the puller and put 3/8 inch dia bolts on top of the studs and re-do the head...
