Re: How To Remove Cosmoline
For the pistons I did recently I used white spirit (mineral spirit) in an ultrasonic cleaner. It worked really well. I think the heat helped a lot. If using cold then a different solvent may be...

Re: transmission case lube
That's interesting. I'll look out for that. I have a trans freshen up coming up and will bear this in mind.

Re: German H-block?
I had a German flatty in my 40 coupe. That motor dated from the mid 50s. It was a nice smooth running motor. It had the rear mounted distributor but I took the cover off the front and ran a crab on...

Re: 39 banjo rear hub pitting?????
I did the job on my lathe. It would not quite swing so I heated and bent the spring hanger and heated and bent it back again afterwards. One way around the lathe size conundrum.
I took a video at...

Re: Maxxis tires
The taxi tyres are 175r16 not 175-75R16 so will be taller than your tyres, Brian.
If no aspect number is quoted they should be an 82 profile.
The 175R16 (175-82R16) should be 27.4" diameter.
A...

Re: Anyone know this guy
Again, gmail is the go to account for ease of use. In fact it was recommended to me when my previous provider ceased supporting emails. It's easy to use and instantaneous. So don't always assume a...

Re: Best paint for painting over rust
I wouldn't put any paint on a rusty surface. I would brush off any loose flakes and clean it up without going mad at it. I would then apply some Waxoyl (UK product) to protect it from further...

Re: aluminum housed oil pump
The aluminium one looks just like the iron one I took out of the 59 series flatty. The 59 type pickup housing would bolt straight on. It wouldn't need any mods for use on a 59 series (or older)...

Re: I'd never have dreamt this would be possible.
59 series post ww2 flatty. It might be significant that the motor was stored upside down or on it's side. The oil pan is next on the list for a close inspection. There is no sign of similar erosion...

I'd never have dreamt this would be possible.
I started cleaning the oil pump for the Old 59 Flatty and i couldn't believe what I found.
I would have thought the oil pump would have been the last thing to have rotted out.

Re: 21 Stud 37mod
Just a hunch, but the three changes listed do not alter compatibility with any other parts, so there is no need to make the distinction.

Re: torque tube clam shell nut clearance problem
You need a 5/8 AF nut and a thin wall socket. On my project 32 I've taken some long 5/8 nuts and turned the ends down so they fit ok and there is more room for the socket. If you have a lathe you can...

Re: Misery loves company
If I'm starting a project and know I have parts stashed all over for it, if I am looking for something and see one of the other parts I'll grab that too and put it in a "current" box. that is out in...
