What am I missing here? If you drive out the old shaft isn't the hole the correct size? Why do you have to drill it out?

You did not mention your plan for your pickup...show or drive? The thumbscrews you need are available in forged not stamped, at Fastenal. Get 4 and they all would be the same.

That shiny spot on the left was a built up "dimple" . 1/16" dia and .043 high. So the copper disc could not sit flat on...

Some time ago, GM (George Mitchell) posted instructions on removing and cleaning the switch, He demonstrated it to some of us when we visited him in his shop. Maybe he will re-post it.

Is it flexible like the rubber connector or is it straight? Straight won't work. the joint has to flex with the engine movement. Do you have a picture of it?
