Re: OT: What type wood between frame rails and truck box?

Locust is the way to go! Thie only thing better is Cypress? (You were expecting me to say Ash wern't you? Not for this!) I'm pausing to reflect on how these qualities of various woods would have...

Re: Wood storage question

If your'e dealing with Ash, which I strongly advise you to do. Although I have no idea what the availability of Ash is on the west coast. It is the prefered wood of car builders going back to to the...

Re: I'm Back!

Marty, et al. I made the unconcious decision that I was not gonna let my life go like that. I Also cut and split my own firewood, do my own oil changes, do many (not all) of my tire changes and...

Rear end remorse

OK, Hope you all can recall when I was changing gear ratios to 3.54. Maybe not. It was my second try at that and maybe the first came out so well that I got cocky and figured, ah what can go wrong?...

Re: Slow starter

Here's my solution! When you check the ground path, you'll note that it runs through some the original frame rivets and that could be problematical. The thing to do is to use a brass5/16 or 3/8 bolt...

Re: Zeroing in a fly wheel cover

I did all that with the file, the pits are too deep.Wish I had Brent's grinder to clean up the surfaces. Many people's advice would be to junk it I'm sure.

Re: Zeroing in a fly wheel cover

EEEWWWWW! I see that and I almost had an orgasm That is so, "Just what I need!" What did you use to begin that? Your RPMs are just about right, all it needs is a coolant delivery system! Without...

Zeroing in a fly wheel cover

As the title says I'm zeroing in a FW cover and and the surface is too pitted and makes the indicator dance around too much for a good reading. I'm thinking of a laser. I can make a fixture to bolt...

Re: ad nauseum-pun intended..............

Ronn, The last few cars I sold were off the curb, in front of my house. My SAAB 9000 was the last, two weeks ago and it was back in the trees. The guy spotted it from the road. I've got a 1932...

Re: I've got a problem!

Well guys, I thought I'd update this and maybe have a teachable moment too. I Knew that engine was loose! I did! However, I had to disconnect it from the driveline to find out how it really was. I...

Casting Numbers REPUBLIC B140 Flywheel cover

Just acquired a new (Sorta) Flywheel cover with these numbers and no visible cracks. It's rusty as hell and requires a lot of wire brushing. Who is/was REPUBLIC? Was Ford using this name for some...

Re: Just a painting

You would know, I'm just guessing! The style you used is called "Tromphe la oel" (SP.) or Trick of the eye. This is very difficult to do. Forgive my lousy French spelling. Very good!

Re: 5.5 head

Now, advise you to get your intake bored out to 1.250 and bolt a B carburetor on it. Or get a downdraft Carb. on it. The A engine is starved for gas with the A carb.

I've got a problem!

So I'm working on a 1930 Coupe engine. It's pretty much stock except for a .040 oversize, and police head. I don't know the mileage on the engine, but it's well over 10K, probably about 25 K. Famous...

Re: Corn Head Grease in Model A trans?

My rule is; If power runs through it, it wants thinner oil! The exception being a Model A transmission. The model A transmission has to be shifted and thick oil helps with the shifting and the...

Re: Carrier Bearing PreLoad Tool

I drilled mine with a standard H.S. drill, albeit with a high quality drill, lotsa oil and low speed. I was surprised it cut as easily as it did. I put my tap in the chuck to get it started and...

Re: Using The Rear Spring Spreader

Somewhere, sometime, somehow I'm sure that someone has been killed by one of these things. I almost lost my right leg when I used a too light (3/4" pipe, 3/4 -10 ready rod) one and the parts went...

Windshield screws

Could someone please give me the size (diameter), length, and the number of screws used to secure the windshield (hinge) in my 1930 standard coupe, I think it was 11 #8 , 1 1/2" long. Could be wrong...

Re: Mystery: Tie-Rod Shock Absorber

You have a worn front end! Not only are the king pin bushings probably shot, but most parts are out of spec (probably) Let's take the king pins as a given. Just jack it up and do a top to bottom...

Re: Trans slips out of 3rd gear

I believe it's caused by a soft input shaft. Since you have the top off the transmission, look up front where the 3rd gear engages the input shaft and see if the teeth are not worn. somewhere I had...

Re: 2023 STEVE RYAN Model A/AA Show & Swap

Unfortunately, I just got back from the show and once again, my hopes were dashed! The rain was just too much. It's a real bummer to see a bunch of good looking parts turned rusty. I was able to sell...

Re: What species of wood

I'm afraid that the Asian Ash borer will do to the Ash species what the Chestnut blight did to Chestnut trees about 1910, that is, render it all most extinct! These trees were huge and productive....
