Re: D44 R&P pattern
Buttoned up the case tonight. Installed the seal and put a little anaerobic sealer on the splines of the flange. Torqued down the nut using some red loctite. The only thing that concerned me some...

Re: D44 R&P pattern
See what you think of this pattern. Lowered the pinion 0.006 which opened up the backlash to 0.0075. Preload still sitting between 12-14 in/lbs.

Re: D44 R&P pattern
One question I also have is the front and rear pinion bearing oil slingers. The original pinion did not have these, just the oil slinger between the front bearing and companion flange. Should I use...

Re: D44 R&P pattern
The motive gear set we used in our 50’ F1 Dana 41 was marked for pinion depth, setting it up was easy. This Yukon is not marked thus the trial and error. I should have gone with the motive gear in...

Re: D44 R&P pattern
Really good feedback guys, thank you. It’s an early 44 so no crush sleeve. It’s a tedious task of correct shims and torque tests. We made setup bearings but they do not compress the carrier shims...

Re: D44 R&P pattern
Roger that, I am going to drop the pinion 0.010, set that backlash you suggest, and report back. Thx

Re: D44 R&P pattern
Thanks bud. I asked the tech guy at Randy’s ring and pinion this morning and he said that the hard flat line at the root of the tooth indicated that the pinion was too deep. I am thinking what I have...

D44 R&P pattern
Would love to get some opinions on this R&P pattern. It’s a Dana 44 Yukon 3.54 for an F1 rear end. Pinion preload at 12 in/lbs and backlash at 0.005.
