Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Gary and others: At the risk of starting a sh.. storm of disagreement I will tell you that I have a new-in-box set of stock OEM Ford EAB flathead lifters that were purchased from Whitey McDonald (the...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

2.125"-2.130" is a good rule of thumb for stock non-rotator springs. Ford said 37-40# at that number for early engines and 50-51# for the Zephyr.

Re: What gears in a stock '48 F1 with 9" rearend?

I'd go 3.25 if it were mine, though 3.50 is a good choice as well. As for pinion angle...the pinion shaft should be parallel to the transmission output shaft with the truck at normal ride height. No...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Gary, you can choose whichever type spring/retainer setup you wish. The non-rotator (longer) springs are generally easier to find if you want new ones. Either will work with your block.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Quote from Gary's initial post:
" I have a lot of preferences already and my desired end result may very well be miles away from what a 'normal' V8er is looking for in his build. 98% of my...

Re: Ujoint gaskets for 1947 Ford

That's for the groove in the rear end of the clamshell to keep the lube from leaking (much) out where the torque tube bell enters.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

From the condition of the three pictured choices, and keeping the intended use in mind, I'd go with the 8BA.

Re: New Eddie Myers’s heads question

What you really need to know is how far down in the cylinder the outside edge of the piston is at tdc. If that's very far down you'll never get the quench (squish) correct. A few thous. above the...

Re: Transmission Countershaft and Bearings Question

That must be the gear set I got to put in my case. The cluster is the one that originally used loose rollers with no cages. That's why it's smaller ID...it's all coming back to...

Re: Adjustable Lifters

If it were mine, and if it has stock valve springs with their low tension, I'd not worry one bit about running a new or reground set of tappets on that cam. Pete's correct in suggesting stock steel...

Re: Transmission Countershaft and Bearings Question

The 8A 7113 cluster has a 1" bore and the bearings I listed fit that cluster...that's the reason. My newer gear set (installed in the '41 case) allowed me to use the B1212 bearings.

Re: Transmission Countershaft and Bearings Question

My answer is...I don't know what the heck is going on. I replaced the bad cluster and other gears with a complete set from a friend, changing from the 15/29 to a16/28 set and those bearings are the...

Re: Transmission Countershaft and Bearings Question

Jim, when I rebuilt my '41 trans I put Koyo B1212 bearings in the cluster gear. They are a needle roller in a drawn cup and pressed into the cluster. Full complement of rollers and specs for load...

Re: Carb issue?

I'd carefully check the accelerator pump action, adjustment, and delivery if it were mine. It should shoot a stream into each side as soon as the throttle is opened. If it doesn't it will give the...

Re: Is this a normal wear pattern on oil pump idler cover plate and block mating surf

Normal, and looks fine. I'd reassemble with assembly lube or vaseline to help it prime and run it.

Re: Only broke down twice today

I've recently seen two cases where the rotor tip hits the distributor contacts. Had to file approx .010-.020" off the rotor for clearance. New parts....

Re: Cylinder sleeveing distortion?

Most likely not if proper press fit is used to install the sleeve. The adjacent cylinder won't be affected.

Re: Intake Manifold gasket material - 1950 V8

I do not like the paper only gaskets. Some are two-ply and separate at the rear and leak oil. Michael at Third Gen has the metal sandwich gasket and it's far superior.

Re: Update on 1928-48 Universal Joint kit installation

If that cracked bushing were mine, I'd run it in the position it sits. But unlike others, I don't mind pushing my luck a bit if the physics makes sense to me.
