An easy thing to check is: next time it won’t start, pour about a half a bottle of water on the carb bowl. If that fixes it, your carb is getting too hot. Good luck.

Be sure to fuse you brake light circuit. That one is messy to fix on the road. Right under the middle of the car.

Jack the wheels off the ground and spin the steering wheel. It would grind if the race is cracked. I doubt that it is cracked. If it steered good last month, it’s not the upper race.

If you do use a reamer, be sure you never turn it counterclockwise. You can ruin it with one little twist backwards.

I bet your problem is an intake air leak. Do the trick with starting fluid before you start taking things apart. Goo luck.
