Re: What are the advantages of upgrading to Hydraulic Braks

Keep your mechanicals. I wish I'd kept mine instead of installing the Lockheed hydraulics. FlatheadTed's bendix-like conversion kit for mechanicals should make a big difference. I just wish he'd...

Re: 5/16-24 wing nuts...

You can run a 5/16-24 tap thru a stamped 1/4-20 or 5/16-18 wingnut to do the job. The application doesn't call for a high load fastener. Jack E/NJ

Maybe VanPelt has a busted mainshaft for you. Ebay has some listed for about $40 but they're still good ones. I've got one but you can't have it. 8^) Jack E/NJ

Re: 8 volt battery in a 6 volt car?

Volt-CCA or cold cranking power (watts) delivered to the starter is the main factor. How long that cranking power is able to be delivered determines the size of the battery. Jack E/NJ

Re: 8 volt battery in a 6 volt car?

Should work fine with an 8 volt alternator except for the cost, lights burning out quicker and stress on the ignition system. Other than that, go for it. 8^) Jack E/NJ

Re: Voltage to points

I'd trust ohm's law in the total 1.8 + 1.4 = 3.2 ohm resistance measurement. So max possible current = 14.4/3.2 = 4.5 amps running. Jack E/NJ

Re: Voltage to points

Agreed on a potential capacitor issue. Sounds like the ballast is about right for a 1.5 ohm coil. With the points closed, there should be 1.5/3.3 x 12.8v = ~6v at the coil input with points closed...
