Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

I'll use the piece I cut out after straightening it.
The inner support structure is bent - that was the main reason to cut this apart.
Yep, I'm scared....

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

My best guess in regard to the cowl section I'd got out of CA. is the left door was open on this car and backed in to something quite forcibly.
The "post" is bent and and as such, well, check the...

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

Nah, I'm the guy just sitting there watching the other guy work. Note the "It's Ford for '40" cap?

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

No, kind of a road block of sorts.

Not too much remaining but life does get in the way at times of what I'd really like to be doing.

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

I've only restored one black '40, a Ford V8 Coupe. Also, the only car I'd done that scored 1000 points.
The owner, a VERY wonderful person, had wanted a coupe "like I had in high school". I'd...

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

Yeah, I believe this one came as more of a surprise to the owner than to myself. It showed up painted flat black primer. As you know, that's a huge red flag.

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

Definitely earning my keep on this project.
The replacement cowl / windshield section I'd acquired is a '38. Enough differences to necessitate some surgery.
Need to install the '40 back up plates...

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

Major surgery began yesterday. The top of the cowl had been replaced in the past with a mix of '39 & '40 parts. The workmanship was some of the worst I'd ever seen.
I was able to source a '38 upper...

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

To my knowledge, at least all the passenger car sheet metal was produced by Ford. I can't speak to trucks.

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

I knew, I just knew I was gonna get in trouble. This is my first dabble outside "concourse correct".

My apologies to all :(

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

My fault... I should not have assumed everyone would know. I've attached a photo here of the very first convertible I'd done (circa 1980ish) for comparison.

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

The third trunk lid from Carpenter arrived today and miracle be, it was not damaged.

I'd mentioned early on in this thread that there will be some little modifications done to this car in the late...

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

My apologies once again for being pretty much MNIA on this thread.
This car is causing me fits. It will get done and it will get done to my standards.. Will I have any hair remaining to pull out at...

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

God evening Mike,
This is my forth '40 convertible so i have a pretty good idea what needs to be done. Unfortunately this one has been bastardized by someone in the past. I'll figure it out and in...

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

Hi ya Zeke,
Someone had installed a floor pan from a sedan in to this car, so yes, it will be completely replaced. I have it fairly close now but won't do any more than tack it until I have the...

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

This one is going to seemingly go slow. Whoever did the old work that was beneath the flat black primer did not own a measuring device of any sort.
Thus, this one is going to require "bouncing...

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

This one wasn't worth the effort (time) to brace as it is really in need of some serious work. Whoever had it in the past did not know the first thing about measuring.

Here's a photo of the last...

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

You guys are hilarious. Thanks for putting a well needed smile on this ugly mug of mine.

Still attempting to nail down the exact specs. So far, it's sounding to be a very tasteful build. NO...

Re: possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

Not yet, so far he's between Cloudmist Gray and Folkstone Gray. As you could see from the photo I'd posted, we're a ways off from color choice.

This is going to be a very fun project for me in...

I didn't want to wear out my welcome here, hence the query.

possible interest in another new restoration project? '40 convertible

Any interest in another restoration thread? This one is a '40 convertible I'd started on a few weeks ago.

This one is going to take a while :)
