Old brass can become brittle and crack. A new brassworks radiator is expensive, but money well spent, and they are top notch quality.

I would guess it started with the weak generator output of the model A's. You would have to turn up the generator 3rd brush for extended night driving, where as probably not with the cowl lights...

I agree with flatjack. I go in the spark plug hole with an allen wrench. Try to hit the center of the valve.

The extra lip you speak of is on the early 9" with the weight blob around the edge, not sure about the flat 10" er's I had one with the lip broken off in many spots, some of the now deceased...

Those weights are not "counter weights", They are to provide more pressure to the disk by using the centrifugal force when spinning at high RPM.

The military does their own rebuilds, with a tag on it which will show the date, the work done, and which base did the work. So most likely the fire dept did the rebuild
