Re: jseery health issues

Re: 8BA rods
The stock Ford squirt holes are aimed toward the camshaft. Some rebuilt rods, such as Federal-Mogul, have modified squirt holes which can require some thought.

Re: Crankshaft bung plugs
Weigh the plugs and add equal weight pieces of clay in their place. Do not install the plugs until the final pristine cleaning operation is performed just before engine assembly.

Re: 59AB crank using 8BA con rods.
I cannot say I recommend it. However, I examined an engine from a high mileage 46 pickup which had 8BA rods on the 59A crank and I saw NO problems with the insert bearings nor the crank journals. So,...

Re: Thoughts/Opinions on Piston Rings
Buying and installing components appropriate for the intended use is NOT an act of "cheaping out". Buying gold parts for a copper system is , in a word, stupid.

Re: A rainey night in Olga
Awesome old Wood Wagon. Love it. And fishing gear is a bonus. Now, with walls and floor space filled, what next? In my case I usually have to clear a place on a machine table before I can use it. A...

Re: Thoughts/Opinions on Piston Rings
I agree with Desoto. You will never know the thickness of the rings on the chosen pistons if you are building a moderate street application engine. And for that matter the brand of pistons will be...

Re: Wrist pin bushings
I press them out with a mandrel I made and a support plate with a proper hole to accept the bushing. The mandrel has a length at .750 diameter sufficient to extend through the rod and the clearance...

Re: Resizing rods
I crush the rod sides before cutting the cap and honing when they are OS at the part. The bearing is only held in place by the press fit in that bore. Maybe those will be ok?

Re: Sleeved 59AB Questions
The steel sleeves with 3 3/16 ID in 59 style engines, that I have seen, were straight. There are(or were) special .083 OS pistons made specifically for these engines when sleeves were removed and...

Re: Ready for Work.
I hope you do not slip backwards like I did upon retiring---it now takes much longer to complete a project than it took when I was trying to do a regular job plus after hours on "special" projects....
