Re: fender panel padding

I had felt strips on some and rubber kinda stuff on other pieces. I would think some sorta closed cell foam would be a good substitute.

Re: Ford F-1 Spindles

'48-'52 F-1 spindles are different than '53-'56 F-100 spindles. In '53 there was a change made to both the kingpin inclination and diameter. Brake backing plates are the same; but the hubs are...

Re: What kind of jack do you carry

Be sure to have a tool that will loosen the lugs; like a breaker bar and 6 point socket.

Holds true for your daily, too.

More so if the lugs were tightened by that guy at the tire shop; you...

Re: Wilwood front disc kit 140-14190

You probably already figured out an alternative; but when doing similar work; I usually bolt a bar between my bench and the kingpin eye to hold the work out in the open and upright.

Re: 4 post lifts

Ended up discussing lifts with a truck driver at my old job. Said he got a bargain; but burning the paint off to repair skipped and shoddy welds was not something he planned on. Guy said the unit he...

Re: Banjo 39-40 hub flange difference?

Be sure to look at the spring hangers to make sure it is a '37-'40 axle and not a '41 or '42-'48.

Re: 1940 Brake Bleeding

You need to find a shop with the right equipment.

Did anyone mic the drums to check the ID?

If there was enough of a lip to hang the shoes; they may very well be worn out.

You can't just...

Re: 1940 Brake Bleeding

This is the reduced diameter arbor that is used on an Ammco brake lathe to turn the rear drums as compared to the standard arbor in the foreground.

I sent this picture to one fellow and he showed...

Re: Front brake assembly

The shoe with the longer lining goes to the front.

Rotate the adjustment cams all the way back.

Be sure the bushing thing that goes in the bottom of the shoe can still slide freely in the shoe...

Re: People Ask Me What Is It For?

I've seen quite a few '35-'36 cars with a regular style ashtray between the radio head and glove box door. How they ended up there is another matter.

Re: How would you price this F1?

On the other hand; you know this truck.

Could be better off swapping in the 302 and selling the flatty instead of building up another truck from scratch or buying someone else's unknowns.

Re: frame crack repair

A stick machine does not produce "booger" welds; an unskilled operator does.

Probably more messes made with wire welders now-a-days anyways.

Re: spindles

Later model spindles have larger (taller) bushings along with a different appearance. They will fit a Model A axle.

Re: Banjo pinion removal tool

Build a "bridge" thru the housing like in the picture and press it off the pinion without loading the housing. Shouldn't need heat with an adequate press.

A bottle jack on the inside may work; but...

Re: Wilwood front disc kit 140-14190

Last set of Lincoln brakes a friend purchased from Speedway were Boling Bros; but the drums and hubs they sell are Speedway's own product. '

Has this changed?

Now a couple guys I have talked to...
