Re: O/Topic- Easy way to remove chrome plating?

I've found this to work quite well. Sometimes running a hand file over the surface can also help loosen stubborn areas, then get the knife under there.

Re: Early Lincoln hubcap clips

Thanks Clem - I generally try to avoid looking at VWs, but will make an exception in this case :)

Early Lincoln hubcap clips

Is there a source for replacement hubcap clips for '40s Lincoln wheels? I have some of these aftermarket wheels made by Kelsey Hayes to fit '28-'35 Ford wire-wheel type hubs, but they take Lincoln...

Re: WANTED: '32 Ford V8 radiator

Had a couple of leads but they've gone cold, so still looking. Even just the top and bottom tanks with outlets would be more than I have at present!

I was told last week that someone had one...

Re: Tight Drums on 38 front end

I'm not familiar with how the shoes are centred on that year, but I had a problem with one of my '32 rear brakes whereby wear on one of the guides was allowing the shoes to sit out of line (eccentric...

Re: Auto-train and older cars

Yes guys, I've updated my profile now. Morris plains, NJ is where I get larger (un-USPS-able) parts shipped to for consignment.

JM, I drove past Warminster last weekend - I had been to collect a...

Re: Auto-train and older cars

Fast fingers, Mart? "a bit"?

Sounds like an adventure - they ripped up half the railways over here in the '60s, although you can probbaly drive the length of the country in less than a day.

Re: 32 4 cylinder ford in 33 ford 4 cylinder frame

Thanks David, that's a nice colour. Also interesting on the torque tube, as it would make it "easy" to mistakenly get the wrong '33-'34 axle if you were not aware of the subtle difference.

Re: 36 Roadster $192,000

I might have guessed it was a typo as the lot above it has exactly the same price, but further down the page is a custom '51 Merc for $423,500 so maybe there were just a lot of guys there with lots...

Re: 32 4 cylinder ford in 33 ford 4 cylinder frame

That's definitely a lot of differences, just to gain a little extra leg room!

Three questions for DavidG:

1 What colour is that car, please?

2 Anti-chatter rods were mentioned - shouldn't...

Re: Check on your order from Macs

I've placed quite a few orders with Mac's over the last few years. I've always placed the orders online as it's easier when there's a six or seven hour time difference, and usually to take advantage...

Re: Ebay Idiots

We get the same nonsense on eBay over here in the UK. My pet hate is the crappy Chinese toy models that come up if you're looking for something like '50s F-100 parts.

There is a '42 or '46 Ford...

Re: My new 1939 Sedan Delivery!

I have to say it looks great with the whitewalls and Lincoln caps - that high shot of it seems to give it some speed or something. It's OK with the 'work' wheels though - either way it's great that...

Re: How do I remove these column drops?

Exactly what I do, although the last one I did was from an older-restoration '34 and I had to resort to the weld-a-nut-on method to get it to move. Once it was out I just ground off the nut and...

Re: What is fair value of set of five 1935 wheels?

You can easily pay the equivalent of $100 a wheel over here in the UK. I swapped a set for a set of '40 steels recently and we were both happy.

Re: 16 inch steelie wheel widths

I've got some 16" x 5" wheels dated '40 or '41. They are almost identical to '40 Ford centres, but the mounting face is set an 1/8" or so deeper: it has been suggested they may be Mercury?

Re: A lesson in Metallurgy.

That's cold - too cold for me to even imagine! It was -2C in the garage last night so I decided to find something to do indoors in the warm :)

Re: 15" Wide Five Wheel ???

I guess mounting the centres on the inside, resulting in a wider track, would be a definite advantage on the race track.

I have seen metric wide fives - in fact I almost bought a set once until...

Re: 33 Tudor-What are these holes for?

My initial thought was 'trafficators', but they wouldn't be much use on just one side of the car! Maybe for a radio aerial?

WANTED: '32 Ford V8 radiator

Looking for an original (or original style) '32 radiator for a flathead V8 car. Preferrably in serviceable condition, but would consider ones needing work, e.g. re-core. My shipper is in NJ 07950 so...

Re: Tires 600x16 from other than Coker or Lucas?

If you drive there and collect them you'll save three days plus the shipping cost. Might spend a few bucks on gas though.
