Re: After Replacing the Headgasket

Hi Ed. After you've checked it a few times, don't worry about it. I haven't checked mine in 3 years plus. No issues! I would be careful about block sealer. My radiator had problems flowing well...

Re: Re-facing valve seats in block: seat angle ?

I went with 3-angle. I used at least 1/16 to 3/32 flat contact surface. Seems OK so far.

Re: am i in trouble?

You said you heard the noise after putting on a muffler. Make sure the muffler isn't loose before rebuilding the engine. If you have the pan off, measure the forward and back movement. If it is...

Re: Is there adifference between an "A" or "B" head gasket

The gasket does not protrude into the combustion chamber as the head is shaped with more relief around the valves like the "B". Ron W

Re: Is there adifference between an "A" or "B" head gasket

I use a copper "B" gasket on my high compression "A" head with "A" block. I think it is the ideal combo! Ron W

Re: Oill pressure off the chart

As Tom has indicated, you are reading the pressure required to push the oil through the filter. When the filter is plugged it reads high. That's one way to tell. Mine exceeds 20# when revved up ...

Re: Thermostat problems

Good catch Bill! I think I would reverse the pump flow so the flow is in the normal direction. Ron W

Re: Thermostat problems

I had a feeling you were not using a stock pump. It acts like the direction of flow may be wrong. Ron W

Re: Thermostat problems

Mine has two 1/8th " holes to allow some circulation while warming up. I've never had a problem. The hot water must be able to reach the thermostat before it boils. Ron W

Re: Pre - ignition Problem.

A 5.2 head would not produce 100 psi unless it has been milled. It sounds like you have a hot spot in the combustion chamber which could be caused by a sharp edge (among other things) from the...

Re: Thermostat?

If your engine is pressurized 180 is good. If your engine is not pressurized 180 is only 32 from 212. 160 gives you 52 degrees of safety. I use 160. Ron W

Re: Rear Wheel Bearing Grease Silver Gray. Is this Rear End Shot?

Graphite grease is often used in high pressure applications. It is commonly used in saw mill machines. I think that is what you have. There is no need to replace or condemn parts that are not worn. ...

Re: Crank Shaft End Thrust Question?

You can't use the rear main thrust bronze without removing the babbit. If it were mine I would leave it till the motor needed a rebuild for other reasons. Other opinions may vary. Ron W

Re: TIG practice and a question

Craters can be caused by contaminants and/or not enough argon. Use at least 15 cfph on steel. Holes 1/4 in or larger should be plugged first with metal the same thickness and then welded. That...
