I'm not sure but I think it may be a washer used on the 4 door sedans to bolt the body to the frame. The elongated piece digs into the wood to keep the carriage bolt from turning when tightening.

Had neighbor who had a early 30 tudor. The fan let loose took out 6 tubes in the radiator and came through the top of the hood scared him so bad he ran into something wiping out the front bumper and...

Just a thought does the distributor cam turn when you crank the engine? I had the front timing gear strip some teeth causing the camshaft not to turn disabling the oil pump and distributor. Good...

I would check the ground connections before doing any modification or add-on. On a rough road there could be a ground connection that is intermitant.
