Re: Longest trip you took in a Model A

1200 miles r/t Jacksonville, Fl to Abingdon, Va in 1995. My wife and I were new to the Model A and knew little of its capabilities. In retrospect, we were lucky to have made the trip with little...

Hope you and Alice are well and doing great in NC! Was happy to hear that you got your great car back in 2020. That car was the first ever Model A that Mable Lee and I rode in. I'm happy to...

Re: Opinions on tires wanted-

Bought four Garfield tires in 2004 for $70 ea (Coker Tire). Good tread but lots of cracking on the sides. I've been really happy with the tires.

Will buy similar tires soon especially before any...

Re: Hot water heater will not fit

I got the used F150 heater core from a radiator shop for $25, a Studebaker 6 volt blower from ebay (think I paid $55 to $60 ship incl), a switch for maybe $4, 3" x 4' flexible alum tubing and pvc...

Re: Hot water heater will not fit

I posted photos of my hot water heater back on 2/24/2020. Described it on 2/23/2020. Total cost below $100, not pretty but takes up little space and works great. Didn't get much attention but if you...

Re: Hot water heater will not fit

Have an album showing an installation of a hot water heater but cannot upload pictures from the album to show you how. If you know how to "upload" the photos to a post, please advise and I'll post....

Re: Trying Something Different For Heat

Second McMimmics suggestion. An alternative to manifold heaters with increased danger of carbon monoxide entering the car. Has worked well for us.

Re: First time adjusting rod and mains

Chris in WNC touches on what I feel is the easiest and most accurate way to adjust your main/ rod bearings --- the "go/ no go" method using heavy duty aluminum foil in the place of Plastigauge.

Re: First trip observations.

I think that backfiring on deceleration can be caused by a lean fuel mixture and white spark plug residue can show high engine temperature. Maybe 1/2 turn GAV will help and a little more timing...

Re: Miles Per Gallon

Over the past year 12.5 to 15.5 mpg. Car runs very well and is stock with no o/d. Drive 45 to 50 on tours. Engine is .100 overbore and operates in normal heat range.

Re: Carburetor Restoration Guru's???

I haven't bought a rebuilt carb from Bert's but, if their carbs are as good as the rebuilt cutout I bought from them, they've got to be pretty darn good!

Re: Hot water heat?

It's not perfect --- have to route hoses to firewall connections to get hot water to the heater core but we don't need heat often in Florida. However, when traveling to the Florida panhandle during...

Re: Hot water heat?

Vendors sell hot water heater installation kits (Bert's A-9426-K) $65 set. Used this for water hose hookup.

Found a F-150 heater core and Studebaker 6v blower--- connected the two with three inch...

Re: changing to 5.50 Bias Ply = changing to 3.54 ratio

Years ago, I had a Volvo 122S that could get to 100 with its stock tires (15 inch wheels). I changed to bigger rear tires and suffered loss of gas mileage and performance. Maybe it was the dynamics...

Re: Tillotson versus Zenith carburetor

Marvel, Tillotson, and Zenith all seem to be good carburetors from my experiences with them. It's really hard to say which is best.

I remember getting good gas mileage from my Tillotsons. A little...

Re: Carburetor float hinge bracket dislodged

I'd send an image if I could figure out how to do it. Prepared a great image but can't get it to attach!
