The rope crank seals can make engine hard to turn. Was it tight prior to installing timing cover & oil pan.

It would depend what springs are in it now & what the current spring tension is condition of springs are they already shimmed. You should always check installed height spring tension.

Your helmet can be set up just like a crab (contact Mike @ thirdgen) the have skip rewind a helmet coil for you set up for 12v whatever polarity you choose & you will have a winner.

I have used 3m weatherstrip adhesive for longer than I can remember on dozens of not hundreds is engines to include flatheads, small & bb Chevy. Never a leak or issue.
