Re: Transmission leak from speedometer cable
I did read #5, that's why I am checking the levels.
What is the fix for a leaking converter? Converter replacement or is there a seal that can be replaced? I did replace the front main (pump?)...

Re: Transmission leak from speedometer cable
And that was the original question. In normal operation and after a shutdown should fluid be high enough to fill the speedometer cable housing?
Currently, when warm and idling the trans fluid...

Re: Transmission leak from speedometer cable
This is the original 62 year old cable. I did not pull it apart but I did check that it turned without restriction. It does work and the speedometer moves smoothly without jerking and without any...

Re: Transmission leak from speedometer cable
I think the fluid is leaking from inside the cable. It is not leaking at the case but the cable starts showing wetness a few inches from the trans case.
The fluid then drips on the trans rear...

When the car sits for a while (couple months) I get a fairly heavy leak from the speedometer cable. When I reassembled...

Re: Replacement radiator fan for 292
The fan, spacer and pulley are factory original and appear to be in good shape but 61 years old. Everything looks like I remember it did way back when I was replacing water pumps on my 60s and 70s...

Re: Miss on newly rebuilt 292
I am currently running the import carb but the vacuum port seems correct. Checking timing - at idle vacuum line plugged set at 8 degrees BTDC. Increase engine speed and the mechanical advance works...

Re: Replacement radiator fan for 292
The bolts, pulley, spacer and fan are all original to the car. The water pump is new but has the same mounting as the old pump.
I checked and the bolts are going through the pump mount and out...

Re: Replacement radiator fan for 292
The bolt holes on the water pump are through holes, unless they are not tapped all the way, which seems unlikely, there is no way for the bolts to bottom out. I checked both the pulley and the...

1959 Edsel 292, 2v auto.
I currently have the original 4 blade radiator fan. Something is just not right about it, even with the 4 bolts very tight to the water pump the fan wiggles a little. It...

Re: Miss on newly rebuilt 292
Carb is new and choke disengages completely after warmup.
As I have already mentioned I adjusted the carb and have 19.5" of vacuum, the needle does move a little but adjusting the carb does not...

Re: Miss on newly rebuilt 292
The cap and rotor are new and look new. First thing I did was pull the cap and look for anything that was not right. The contacts are all clean and nothing looks out of place. There are no cracks...

Re: Miss on newly rebuilt 292
The last time this engine ran before the rebuild was in 1970. It was sitting for 50 years so all the old parts are really old!
Only had a few minutes to work on it today but I put the old coil on...

Re: Miss on newly rebuilt 292
The wires/firing order is correct. I've checked several times including a couple days ago when I tested the resistance of each plug wire.
I'm going to try replacing the coil and plugging the...

Re: Miss on newly rebuilt 292
Thanks for the replies. I think that the spark is not strong enough and will be focusing on ignition. I've checked valve lash several times and the valves are not too tight.
I did bypass the...

Re: Poorly running fresh rebuilt 292
Yes, I've adjusted the valves to 0.019 hot, they were very close after the cold prelim setting of 0.018, only had to adjust a thousand or 2 and a few valves.
And yes, I did start the carb screws...

Re: Poorly running fresh rebuilt 292
I took the ventura out of my old spare mid 60s carb, cleaned it really well and swapped it into the original Edsel carb that was on the car.
Wow, it runs much better now. I was able to drop the...

Re: Poorly running fresh rebuilt 292
I stripped the whole car to restore it. I pulled the exhaust "heater" valve and of course it was stuck. I got it freed up enough to move but ended up cutting the flap out of it so the exhaust is...
