Re: Radius rod is too long

I literally just went through this yesterday and today. Like already mentioned, things have to be loose until everything is together. A pry bar helps at times.

Re: 6 blade plastic radiator fan

The only fans that come apart are the original steel ones that are several pieces and will crack. The reproduction aluminum ones are cast and are almost impossible to break.

Re: how to eliminate free play of the rear axle

The surfaces that wear are the ends of the axle shaft gears and the carrier housings they contact with. Here is the set I pulled out of my rear end a few weeks ago, extremely worn. The carrier is...

Re: 28 A, Bad shake... guidance please...

It could also be that your radius ball cap nuts are loose. But more likely than not something in or the whole suspension is worn.

Re: how to eliminate free play of the rear axle

Your carrier surface and or axle shaft surface is worn giving you that endplay.

Re: Radius ball cap nuts...

Are you supposed to bottom the nuts down or tighten them enough only to get the pins in? I have seen both.

Re: Oil Pan Gaskets

I like the paper gasket but the cork ones are OK too. Whatever you do, don't use the cork-rubber one!!! They swell up and leak after a little while. Found it out the hard way. The oil pan doesn't...

Re: W.W. Tires

You can paint over powder coating if you rough it up and take some off with sandblasting. I have done it before in tight situations with epoxy over it. Not something I like to do though' especially...

Re: Maroon Paint shades

You have to keep in kind that different light sources and degrees of light will dramatically change the color.

Re: drive shaft diameter question

Looks like the early pinion and driveshaft. Does your center section have no reinforcing ribs either?

Re: So why did Ford go from 21" wheels to 19" wheels?

Keep in mind they changed the way the edge was designed too, from the rolled over open 28-29 to the seamless 30-31. I consider it one of the many design improvements to 30-31 models.

Re: is this shock on upside down?

The shocks on both the front and back are supposed to hang down like that.

Rear Shock Arms

Looking for a pair of good rear shock arms that are not bent and have good balls.

Re: Front Bumper Brace Bent

I just did this to my roadster a few months ago. First off compare the shape and bends to the good one. Maybe make a diagram.
Bad news is that you have to take it off the car, put it in a vice, and...

Re: Cheap Reproduction Head?

I think that is an aftermarket part - I've seen a lot of them on cars that were last worked on in the 50s and 60s. Haven't really seen a lot of them at swap meets though.

Re: Antique Engine Rebuilding

I have been wondering that too - will he continue to make them? Should have asked him a few weeks ago.

Somebody probably took a piece of threaded rod and made one for whatever reason.

Re: Rear spring and shackle bushing

I ordered the shim stock and that is what I will try with some loctite. Couldn't source any other bushings that were the right size so this is the direction.

Something else worth mentioning is...

Re: Rear spring and shackle bushing

Thanks for the good ideas. I am going to call Brattons and see what size their bushings are. If all else fails, I'll either do the shim stock idea or loctite, or both.

Re: Rear spring and shackle bushing

Yes I was thinking about calling Snyders. Something I forgot to mention was that the holes in the spring are perfectly okay - they aren't wallowed out or damaged in any way. Took a swing with...

Re: Fan Clearance from Water Pump

Usually this is a problem with the new leakless water pump housings, but yours looks older. I would check your fan nut in this case and check the keyway if you can to make sure it is in good shape...

Rear spring and shackle bushing

I tried putting new bushings in my rear spring leaf and the ones I bought from Snyders a few years ago are too loose. They measure 0.75 outer diameter when the hole is really closer to 0.765. I have...
