Re: 1941 instrument panel

If you want to go the Christmas light route, you can work out the voltage of the light string by adding up the battery voltage.

3 batteries (at say 1.5v each) is 4.5V. Two batteries will be 3v,...

Re: 1941 instrument panel

The gauge cluster is held in with four bolts that are accessed from the rear of the dash.

Re: 41 ford choke & Throttle Rod rubber connections

I have a buddy that used JB on them. Looks stock and works well.

I used a hydraulic cable crimper for some yacht wire balustrading I did a while back. Worked well but left hex crimp marks on the...

Re: 1941 convertible backfire to carb, with video

My 41 cvt got a lot more drivable when I replaced the vacuum banjo fitting at the base of the carb. It was a vacuum leak under 'attempted' heavy acceleration. I'm pretty sure it was where the pot...

Re: 1941 instrument panel

The 41 panel can be gloomy at the best of times. I believe that the inner glass (with the numbers) was designed to be lit from the edge. I had a lot of dust and sealant in there. If you clean the...

Re: 1941 instrument panel

Apols for digging up an old thread, but if anyone is interested, I'm pulling my 41 instrument cluster apart at present.

Happy to share pics if there is any appetite for 'em.

Re: Wire splicing

Way back when I was green and simple I pulled wires on Lears, Swearingens and Gulfstreams. We were taught to crimp, not solder (or soder) unless the solder joint is mechanically supported.

The...

Where did you mount the camera, and more importantly, the screen?

Re: seat belt installation 40 Merc

Mount the short side nearest the door. They're not long enough to dangle.

It's opposite to modern cars but you'll get used to it.

Re: 1941 Ford dash light dimmer switch

Ford for 41 had the new 'what the heck is going on?' (Tm) gage cluster. I'm pretty sure there is literature around some place.

I have white needles faded to ivory/grey. Mine can't get much more...

Re: 1940 convertible top care and operation

Watch how the latches sit against the top when lowered. The centre one can wear a hole into the top if incorrectly positioned when down.

This happened to the previous owner of my 41. Might not be...

Re: 1947 side loader trans seal replacement

I replaced the trans seals on my 41 with the box in the car, but I took the side plate off.
Space is very tight, but you can manage if you slide the pedal shaft to the side.
I think those pins are...

Re: Dash lights 40 deluxe.....

As others have said, bypass the switch. Check both globes as well. They earth through the base so they won't work when you pull them out.

Re: 1940 Ford Deluxe Voltmeter for 12 Volts

I think I see your point. If your 12V system drops to say 10V, the 6V meter will 'see' 4V.

Dropping to 8V, the 6V meter will 'see' 2V. Not exactly linear indication. More like a good/bad...

Re: Another turn signal question...need advice from electrical guru

Are you running LED brake lights by any chance? If you have LED brake lights, swap 'em back and see if the flash rate slows.

As I recall it, there are two kinds of flasher: electromechanical...

Re: 1940 Ford Deluxe Voltmeter for 12 Volts

Apols for digging up an old thread, but I have to ask: why can't you use an isolated solid state converter for the voltmeter?

My understanding is the solid state units simply provide a consistent...
