Re: Safe To Drive.....?
Of course it's worth dropping the pan.
You've got the time, so fix it. My first post that basically said don't let an oil leak keep you home was made when I thought you wanted to make your trip...

Re: Safe To Drive.....?
How much is it leaking? Stop and check the oil level every 10 or 15 miles until you know how often to add some and drive your car. You bought it to enjoy, so enjoy it.
You might put some oil...

Re: Clutch Issue - Need Help Please
I haven't had to do it with a Model A, but my 52 pickup had the disc rusted to the flywheel a couple times. I started it in low gear and got it going down my long driveway a few mph then held in the...

Re: I Need A Temperature Guage ???
That was my experience too. The Motometer is useless until the water is almost boiling and rises up in the radiator neck to touch the sensor tip.
The vintage gauge in my dad's 29 Tudor read 140...

Re: Rubbing
My Coker 21" radials are substantially larger than the multiple brands of bias rags I took off. They rub just a little in a tight turn.

Re: Water Tempature Reading
190 is not overheated. Even plain water is fine up to boiling at 212 degrees. The problems occur when the coolant boils and creates pockets of steam where the metal temperature is momentarily much...

Re: Compression test results, opinions please.
Most anyone with even moderate mechanical skills can put rings in a Model A in an afternoon, just do it. Then you'll have a new head gasket and an opportunity to tighten up the bearings a bit too.

Temperature Gauge
Here's a good price on a gauge that looks vintage enough for me and has the correct scale for our unpressurized cooling systems....

Re: Rolling chassis
My idea is that a fellow would be way ahead buying a complete rolling chassis in about any condition rather than gathering up a bunch of unrelated junk and piecing one together. A complete chassis...

Re: Front wheel bearing grease caps?
I saw on some forum, thought it was this one, that Ford passenger car bearing caps from the early 50's would fit the hubs. I trotted right out in the woods and removed a pair from a junker 52...

Re: Crank shaft pulley wobbles
I agree with Syncro, if it's been running that way quite a while and it's not loose or leaking, leave it alone. It's only job is to drive a big soft V belt and the belt doesn't care. If the engine...

Re: Cleaning parts
Being a country boy, I have a big wood stove in my metal fab shop. I soak parts in diesel to dilute/remove the petroleum based adhesive that is bonding the dirt to the parts. A small amount of...

Re: Engine Oil
A lot of it landed on the highway, maybe not a whole 1/2 gallon to top it off but close. No big deal when the oil is free and time is short. The car is no cream puff show rig, just an old car as it...

Re: Engine Oil
My dad's 29 was (is) in need of rings and leaks profusely. I drove it several times a summer for the past 15 years. A 30 mile round trip to town would require a half gallon of oil to top it back up....

Re: How to test a Rex-a-co temp gauge?
I saved a search on ebay for this Rochester gauge that matches the one in my dad's 29 Tudor. Don't know if he installed it, but it was in the car the first time I remember being aware of the car,...

Re: How to test vintage oil gauge
Just pull the plug out of the middle right side of the engine between the oil pan and the valve cover and screw the gauge in that hole.

To answer the non electrical part of the question, the engine will stop on the compression stroke of whichever piston is coming up when the flywheel no longer has enough inertia to overcome the...
