I was only able to get the 185 degree thermostat to work correctly in a pressurized system. The 160 degree performed well in a non-pressurized system.

I have found that the rear bearing with just one seal doesn't seal well even with the slinger in place. I am using a double sealed bearing and the level now stays up after extended touring.

The front bearing with the fan off you can see the seal on the ball bearing. The rear is more difficult, the pump needs to be pulled, you can see the Rupert machined bearing and seal holder.

I would use the fan remover nut sold by the suppliers. Sit with the pump between your knees with the fan resting on your legs. Remove the castle nut and install the remover, thread it most of the way...
