Re: Engine backfires under load

Make sure the points are set to .020. If they are closer it will backfire...if they continue to get closer than .020 it will get worse.

Re: Ampmeter

I do not recall what it read before the new battery. Just beginning to wonder if it was just a dead battery or something draining it and thus it reads high.....????

Re: Ampmeter

Original generator and cut out - no alternator. It goes back to zero when it is stopped and still idling. Did not turn the lights on to see what happens. The last thing I changed was the battery.

The mercury in my quail motometer is not solid, it has an 1/8" space in it about 1/8" from the top. How do I change the motometer without damaging the quail?

Re: hauling A Model A

Use a trailer and put the car in gear and use some tie downs or come-a-longs to keep it secure.

Re: '28-'29 Deluxe Roadsters? Restore?

It should be restored to original options and colors. If it is restored for resale it may not bring as much as a 1930 or 1931, but will look impressive.

Owners manuals

There seems to be a large price difference in owners manuals. Obviously the condition plays a role in what they are worth.

Is there a way to check if they are original or reprinted?

Re: Shay model "a"

Around 10,000 Shay's were built. If more than that were produced all the cars would need to follow U. S. Federal standards on designs and safety. I recall an article about Shay production of...

Re: '29 Roadster value?

It will cost more than the asking price to restore one. Sellers know that and want to get as much out of a car as possible. To me the price is a little high. However, if you like it - buy it.

Re: 1929 Roadster rear bumper
