Re: Model A Shock
Your base has an 8-Pie design, definitely not Model A.
Also the tapered bottom edge of the cover with no lock ring.
My guess would be 32 Model B - but I'll have to defer to the experts there....

Re: Model A Shock
Please attach a picture.
From your description, this may not be a Model A shock.
I'm not aware of ANY original shock that had "Patent Applied For" stamped on the cover.
And there is no lock...

Re: Door latches
Same latches were used on Coupe & Tudor. I like the originals better than repo.
ebay is another source for originals... I see them turn up there occasionally.
Chuck Kuntz had some listed for sale...

Re: pops, slips, drops out of second gear
I always heard that the MARC gears were good (I have no first-hand experience using anything but original gears). But you still might have too much play with the gears on the main shaft.
Several...

Re: Fog Light Switch Help
I believe the switch itself was illuminated.
Hooked up to the tail-lights so that anytime the lights were on, the switch would illuminate. Might want to check to see if it has a bulb in it, and if...

Re: AutoLite heater install
It looks like you have a firewall hole placement for an otwell heater, but have an AutoLite exhaust manifold on your vehicle.

Re: Reducing Steering Free Play
Quote "Is that 1.25" free-play in just the box or total ? If total thats not too bad. If just the box, it should be better/less."
I am soooo confused. We are talking about OP's steering and...

Here is what I have in my collection. Would like to credit the author for this, but not sure where or who it originally came from.
It sounds like the article you are referring to.

Re: Lower bearing and flange assembly 7 tooth
If it's not in the correct position, it has to be the lower plate.
See this image (from Snyders) showing how the alignment of the plate and lower bearing determines the slot position for the light...

Re: pops, slips, drops out of second gear
You have eliminated the tower / forks / detents etc by swapping the tower.
My guess would be either some poor quality repro gears, or too much clearance in the sliding gears on the main shaft.

Re: Reducing Steering Free Play
Ed
Movement of that magnitude should be fairly easy to spot. Top to bottom, the kingpin bushings would be suspect and/or wheel bearings.
If you eliminated the steering box as a source of free...

Re: Where do I go from here??
If you don't have a garage to store it in, you might look into the mini-storage facilities in your area. That car should not be left outside.

Picture isn't clear enough to determine what those are, or what they are made of.

Re: Cause of Blow By
There will always be some amount of blow-by past the rings.
They are never seated end-to-end to prevent 100% of blow-by. It's normal.
Also normal is that the crankcase is a torrent of oil and oil...

Re: 31 Universal Joint is it original or repro
Most of the "reproduction" parts don't have identification markings cast into the components, and the castings appear "rougher".
The part number is xx-7900 to fit 1928-1948 vehicles. NOS parts...

Re: 31 Universal Joint is it original or repro
Appears original. In some of the reproductions the yoke is too square, not allowing it to fit within the housing correctly.
There should be NO rotational play on the splines or bushings.

Re: Modern Grease For Steering Gears
Don't fill your steering box with grease, then top it off with gear oil, as suggested in a prior post.
The grease is pushed out of the way, and at that point the grease serves no further purpose....

Re: Engine heat in cold weather
What you are saying is not possible.
Think of the radiator, and the heater, as a heat exchanger. The efficiency of a heat exchanger is a function of the size, number of tubes, number of fins,...
