Re: A ride to the general store - 31 Town Sedan drone video

Brilliantly done! The black and white is perfect. I especially like the stationary camera scenes when your Model A is going through the curves in the woods.

Re: Use of avgas?

100 LL fuel, the kind most general aviation planes use, is known for withstanding long term storage. It smells good, too, smells like you are getting ready to go someplace interesting!

Re: Add on items- increase, decrease, no difference in value?

Thanks for the input on the accessories. For my purposes of a long distance trip, the overdrive is a plus assuming the rest of the car, brakes and steering, is up to the task. The air conditioning...

Re: Add on items- increase, decrease, no difference in value?

The asking price is $18,400. I have not seen it in person, but have talked to the owner by phone. It was one of his dad’s cars, so details are a little vague.

It also has turn signals in the cowl...

Add on items- increase, decrease, no difference in value?

If you were shopping for another Model A, (as I am) what adjustments if any would you make in your offer if the potential purchase had these?

A) 12 volt conversion with alternator
B) overdrive...

Trade your Town Sedan for a nice Sport Coupe?

Is anyone interested in trading a decent four door Model A that drives reliably for a pretty Sport Coupe? I’m making plans for a cross country trip in the next year or two and a four door version...

Re: Which Model A for a coast to coast trip?

Terry,

This book I just finished reading is “Ford Model T Coast to Coast” published in 2018.

He did mention a trip in a Cobra though.

Re: Which Model A for a coast to coast trip?

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. I like the idea of using my coupe and increasing the storage in some fashion and the single wheel trailer. For those with a Sport Coupe, is the fabric...

Re: Which Model A for a coast to coast trip?

I’m thinking for two people, my wife and me. I just finished Tom Cotter’s book, so it has inspired me. The longest trip I’ve done in a Model A is from Virginia to Hershey and back in a 31 roadster 15...

Which Model A for a coast to coast trip?

If you were to set off on the adventure of traveling leisurely from coast to coast in a Model A, which version would you select?

I think my 29 Sport Coupe is a poor choice for various reasons.

Re: Finding TDC for leak-down test

Hi Jack,

I don’t know if a Model A engine will start making complete revolutions with compressed air piped into one cylinder, but when doing leak down tests on airplanes, an assistant has to hold...

Re: Finding TDC for leak-down test

I put my big fat thumb over the spark plug hole and feel the compression increasing as the engine is slowly turned by an assistant.

Be careful of putting air pressure in a cylinder unless the...

Re: Kewanee Green, cant find it anywhere.

An automotive paint store can match it if you take the car to them, or a piece of it. I took the cap off my door panel to match Vagabond Green for a small batch of touch up paint. They can also mix...

Re: Carb Rebuild

Gunk carburetor and parts cleaner is readily available in most car parts stores. Around $28.00 and the gallon size gives you plenty of room for a Zenith. It has the basket for dipping the items,...

I’m not sure what suggested to you that I don’t know the difference between the function of the choke and the GAV. This is my fourth Model A so I am right familiar with them. This one seems...

Choke to start all the time?

My 1929 Sport Coupe takes a bit of choke to start even when fairly warmed up. Is that normal?

Carburetor is clean and recently rebuilt, recent ignition parts replaced, timing seems spot on,...

Yes, you are describing what I found too, though I don’t know where my headlight sockets were made. The high beam terminal in the socket on one light was just barely touching the socket and...
