I totally agree with you updraught. The fitted exhaust pipe/muffler is virtually unbaffled which would improve the scavenging effect of the exhaust gasses .
Will try the "tin can" muffler and report...

A quick update! When using the hand throttle, the vehicle accelerates reasonably smoothley. Once the RPM is increased, the engine stabilises and operates well using the pedal.

I went for a short drive this pm.using the hand throttle, at low RPM the engine was as before but with an increase in RPM, there was a market improvement.
I will be checking the ignition components...

Remove starter motor, attach a rubber hose onto the end a portable vacumn cleaner hose, push the other end of the hose to the bottom of the housing, behind the flywheel and switch on the vacumn....

Starter Rod length?
Anyone have the length for the starter rod that connects the starter switch to the foot operated linkage on a RHD '28 (photo attached ).
