Re: New member, my introduction

Welcome to the "Barn"! That's a nice Tudor. There are many tips and tricks etc. to be learned here. In some ways, Mod As are like no other cars. There's no better place to learn about them.

While the engine feels strong when it surges it...

Re: front spring bushings

I make my own bushing drivers. If you have access to a lathe, it's a simple tool to make. It's the kind of a first job we did early in basic Machine Shop. No heat, No chill. no drill or reamer . Just...

Re: embarassing question

I said my piece! I think Brent was the wrong guy to attack. I think upon reflection that the writer will realize this. I don't wish that this should go any farther. Let's forget about it and go on...

Re: embarassing question

Re: Cracked block repair failure

When I was working as a Maintenance Machinist/welder. The boss got a job in, that I detested. It was a 6 or 8" C.I. valve body from the local sewer plant (I can't recall which) It was cracked like it...

Re: Cupholder Dash Mount

I used a piece of sheet 18ga. I attached a piece of ash to the bottom. I had cut out a large hole for the cup. I made the sheet metal long enough to reach two of the screws that hold the dash rail!...

Re: Cracked block repair failure

I have a friend who welded a Catepillar head by heating it to 1400 deg. F in an oven for a while. Then he welded it with 6010 wire. It Held! 6010 wire has a very violent arc and will clean a lot of...

You might want to take a trip to Bill Haberer's Mod A Acres in Watsonville, Pa. I don't know where Lexington, Ohio is, but Bill is right off Rt 80 about halfway across the state. Bill aquired a...

Re: Looking for help

Larry's advice is good! Anything to save pulling the engine! However, If you must, you must! Is the car in a garage now? If so , does the garage have an open ceiling? If so, can you put a short 4 X4 ...

Re: Looking for help

Tnewton, I'm pulling my engine now so I'm in the middle of this operation and intensely familiar with it. First, Take the hood and floor boards off/out. Then the light bar and lights pull it ...

Re: Looking for help

Welcome to the Barn! First of all, Why pull the engine just because it won't start? Do a compression test ! Is it getting gas? Does it have spark? It is common for the valves to stick. Here's a good...

Re: OT: Is a 'themed' shop necessary to a (potential) customer??

I'm sure that whatever you come up with will be fine. The two things that will make your business a success are timely service and a good price. Best Of luck with it!

Re: A Public 'Thank You!' to Bert's Model A

Berts has really lousy hours on the week ends. I was there in Sept. Sat. was some kind of street fair or something that involved a bunch of Hippyisch people. Two weeks later, I went back to Denver,...

Re: Model a vs b carburator

I imagine it climbs hills quite well! I was warned off the polishing also. No reason given. Just clean up any casting glitches and leave the surface a little rough. So I used the word "polish" kinda...

Re: Perch Bolt Diameter? Drop in or Press in?

I once needed a bearing for my John Deere Combine. J.D.'s price was over $10, Transbearing's was $1.50. Same bearing only with out J.D.'s markup. It's a good idea to always check the bearing houses....

Re: Model a vs b carburator

Re: Flywheel weight??

I think we had this discussion before, but I'll reiterate my point again. Ligthter FWs do not add HP, but they free it up and it goes to the wheels instead of being lost. If that is not clear,...

Brent, Not to be snarky about this, but even Henry Ford, began to see the light on lighter FWs I think all the arguments for lightening a FW hold some water. (Smooth roads, shifting etc) But I...
