Re: headlight switch

If you're getting power to the dimmer switch, your headlight switch is fine.

Check all the grounds on your headlights and park lights first. Intermittent or bad grounds will give you the symptoms...

Re: Edsel Confidential

Exactly. If you read the story in the latest Rodder's Journal of the Ford exec who drives his '34 coupe to work everyday and parks it in the executive garage you'll see that Ford has real car guys in...

Re: Edelbrock 94 carbs

According to Edelbrock's 2010 printed catalog they have cast iron bases.

However, on their website it says aluminum. Not sure what's up with that.

I picked one up and looked it over at the...

Re: Washers instead of thermostats

This is the exact set-up I have used for the last five years. My 8BA runs between 180-185 even when idling along on the hottest days.

Re: Converting 6V starter to 12V

Really? Doesn't the reversed polarity make the starter run backwards?

Re: 1954 Ford TV advertisments,,

Those are pretty cool. Notice in one they are selling "easy to drive" to women.

Thanks for the link.

Re: Converting 6 volt to 12 volt, coil question.

But you can't jump a positive ground car with a negative ground one. And the whole rest of the world is negative ground! :)

Re: Converting 6 volt to 12 volt, coil question.

Thanks for the advice on optimizing a 6 volt system but my original question about the coil was because the conversion is already well underway.

6 volt systems could'nt have been all that great if...

Re: Converting 6 volt to 12 volt, coil question.

Looking in my Dennis Carpenter catalog I see that he also has a 12 volt coil that looks like the original 6 volt one.

Re: Converting 6 volt to 12 volt, coil question.

Mostly because of lights that are too dim to be safe in modern traffic. The brake lights are not visible at all in daylight.

Converting 6 volt to 12 volt, coil question.

I'm converting our '47 Mercury to 12 volt negative ground. Can I still use the original 6 volt coil with a ballast resistor, or do I need a new coil?

Can I use a generic canister type coil.

Re: What the heck is this thing?

Thanks guys,

I'm using a complete kit from American Autowire so I'll be replacing everything with new parts from the kit.

What the heck is this thing?

We started re-wiring our '47 Mercury yesterday (converting it to 12 volts), and in the process of ripping out all the old wiring, I came across this:

Re: How many out there run Stromberg 97's

I can only speak for myself, but the 94's I've had all ran like crap. I finally went with a 97 from Uncle Max and haven't had to touch it in almost two years.

Worth every penny.

Not mine but a nicely restored '40 that I saw at a car show two years ago.

Re: questions about a stromberg 97

I had my carb rebuilt by Uncle Max probably two years ago. I installed it and haven't touched it since. Looks good, runs better. He's the man.
