Those "Bendixes" will get 'hung-up' on the ring gear on occasion, which it sounds like yours' has. And what you say is the general idea for freeing the culprit......EXCEPT......try it like this. ...

The "Rule of 44" always applies.......EXCEPT when it DOESN'T! I've heard of a 29/14 in SOME Mercury transmissions, and like in your case, a 27/16 combo in some '51-ish pick-ups. That's all I know. ...

Are you using correct flywheel for engine? Using an EARLY (BEFORE 1949) flywheel on a LATE (1949-1953 8BA-type) engine will cause misalignment of ring gear.

Likewise, using a LATE flywheel on...

Like Bill says above, remove the wimpy V8-60 mounts that merely rivet to the "REGULAR" chassis front crossmembers. Once you remove the "60" brackets, you'll see the big holes for the 'big'...
